in which a marshmallow seals Jinki's and Jonghyun's fate together.

Boys Meet U. so... as you can see, Boys Meet U happened months ago and when the photo was published, i wanted to write something about it. and yet, i have no idea why it always takes me so long to actually get it done. gaaah, anyway, i'm glad this is finally out of my head! i can only say, beware of the fluff. as always, thank you for giving this story a chance! i hope you'll survive the sweetness that can rival that of a marshmallow~ 。(*^▽^*)ゞ
Lee Jinki was never a fan of parties, or even large social gatherings for that matter. He would rather head to the bar alone, indulge in a couple of beers, treat himself to some crispy fried chicken, and play darts by himself. All that to him was more enjoyable than being in a company of friends and surrounded by nonstop chattering. You would think Jinki was a loner, or perhaps even anti-social. Yet, oddly enough, Jinki not only had a wide social network, in which he had a close group of friends he held close to his heart, but he also had a boyfriend, one that he had been dating for just over three months. They weren't anything too serious (as of now) but Jinki knew he must have liked Kim Jonghyun more than he thought he did on account that he was now sacrificing his Friday night usually spent alone with beer and chicken to accompany Jonghyun to a party at a beach house.
Jonghyun wasn't the host but he was the life of the party. He had only taken three steps into the beach house and he was already swarmed by people excitedly greeting him and giving him high fives as well as hugs. Jinki had automatically shied away from the attention he was getting for coming together with Jonghyun, his body instinctively moving away from Jonghyun's hold so he could escape the questions that were bound to be asked. However, Jonghyun was having none of that. Once he realised Jinki had slipped out of his embrace, Jonghyun quickly linked his hand back with Jinki's and without a word, led him out of the crowded house, straight towards the campfire that had been set up at the beach. It was quiet outside, with almost everyone still partying along to the music in the house, and Jinki was thankful, somewhat relieved, when he and Jonghyun had settled down on one of the portable benches placed around the warm campfire. It had originally only been the two of them outside the beach house but three sentences into their conversation, an entire group of who Jinki guessed were Jonghyun's course mates joined them and demanded all of Jonghyun's attention.
Jinki wasn't surprised one bit that they, or rather Jonghyun, managed to lure the group out because he knew his boyfriend was quite the charmer. Why else did you think he was dating Jonghyun? It wasn't easy for Jinki to be attracted to just anyone considering his personality and how he was perpetually oblivious to all that was happening around him. Jonghyun was definitely something special... special enough to be interested in Jinki in a way few were. It wasn’t that Jinki felt inferior to others; it was just that Jonghyun seemed like he deserved or could choose someone more outstanding than Jinki. Someone who could be a better boyfriend to Jonghyun, someone who would at the very least join in the conversation and be as enthusiastic as everyone else, unlike Jinki who admittedly was feeling rather restless as the minutes went by.
Once Jonghyun and his friends began catching up with each other after he had introduced Jinki to the crowd, Jinki’s attempt to look like he was paying attention to the conversation was very much a failure. The truth was, he was much more interested in the waves that crashed onto the shore. It had been too long since Jinki was out like this, enjoying the gentle sea breeze and the beautiful sight before him, that he momentarily forgot where he was and lost track of time. By the time Jinki remembered he was with Jonghyun and turned back to his boyfriend, he was a little surprised to see that the group was now roasting marshmallows over the campfire. Jonghyun, too, was doing the same, except that he wasn’t doing a great job since he was far too caught up with the conversation he was having with a friend sitting beside him. The stick that Jonghyun was holding wasn’t even sitting nicely above the fire anymore. Obviously, the three marshmallows that Jonghyun had stacked together weren’t getting toasted the way they should be.
Jinki couldn’t help but smile at the sight before him. It was actually rather adorable to see Jonghyun resembling a kid, so excitedly engaged in the conversation, his marshmallows, long forgotten, hovering in the air. Wanting to help his boyfriend roast the marshmallows, Jinki tapped Jonghyun on his thigh to silently get his attention. The next thing he knew, the stick of marshmallows was right in front of his face as Jonghyun had instantly turned towards him with the sweet treat in hand. Jinki didn’t know why he did what he did next but there was no turning back because in the next moment, he found himself opening his mouth to bite the marshmallow off the stick.
“Jinki hyung?!” Jonghyun gasped, looking a little too amused for Jinki’s liking and on the verge of laughing out loud, “What are you doing?”
If his mouth wasn’t preoccupied with pulling the exquisitely soft and gooey sugary treat off the stick, Jinki would have told his boyfriend to tone down because people were starting to look. In retrospect, Jinki shouldn’t have assumed that the marshmallow hadn’t been roasted at all (because it was, and the gooey substance had cooled down just enough to become one with the damn stick). Then, Jinki wouldn’t be in the awkward situation he was in right now, unable to part with the stick of marshmallows Jonghyun was holding so diligently for him to enjoy. It didn’t help that his boyfriend was already laughing to his heart’s content, completely revelling in the predicament he was in.
Jinki uncharacteristically let out a whine as he wrapped his hand around Jonghyun’s hand that held the stick and pulled it away from him. At the same time, he moved back and finally managed to bite the marshmallow off the stick. Even so, Jinki was still in a sticky situation… literally. As he brought the stick away from him, he could see and even feel two or three little sticky strings of marshmallow on his lips. After quickly chewing and swallowing the marshmallow in his mouth, Jinki was about to lick his lips to clear the mess when Jonghyun’s thumb was suddenly on his chin, gently rubbing away the stickiness that surrounded his mouth. In the next second, Jinki could only watch as Jonghyun brought his thumb back towards his own lips to suck off the sugary goodness that had been on his very lips a moment ago.
“Mmm, tastes good.” Jonghyun hummed in satisfaction as he winked at a dumbfounded Jinki.
Jinki felt a blush rise to his cheek. And what Jonghyun said next did nothing to make him any less embarrassed.
“Damn it, hyung, you’re so cute, I just love you so much.”
“Di- did you just-” Jinki stuttered out as his eyes immediately grew the widest Jonghyun had ever seen them.
Jonghyun cursed under his breath and grabbed Jinki’s hand as he pulled them both up from the bench and said, “We should go somewhere private.”
*
“That’s not how I intended to confess to you.” Jonghyun admitted once he and Jinki had found a spot on the beach away from the party, sitting beside each other on the soft sand, facing the sea. “It just came out of my mouth without me even knowing…”
Jinki stared at a retreating wave as he said, “If you want to take it back, I-”
“What? No! Of course not!” Jonghyun turned to face Jinki while shaking his head continuously, “That’s not what I meant!”
“Jjong, relax.” Jinki said as a smile tugged on the corner of his lips, his hand back on Jonghyun’s thigh and squeezing it in a comforting manner, “You were probably as shocked as I was when those three words came out.”
“Six.”
“What?”
“Six words.” Jonghyun clarified as he thought out loud, “if I remembered correctly, I specifically said ‘I just love you so much’.”
Jinki could bet his cheeks were turning red again. And he knew he was spot on because the look on Jonghyun’s face confirmed his suspicion.
“Stop looking at me like that.” Jinki shifted uncomfortably in his position, hand leaving Jonghyun’s thigh.
“Like what?” Jonghyun raised an eyebrow.
Jinki looked away as he muttered, “Like a love sick puppy.”
“Crap, am I that obvious?” Jonghyun was this close to smacking himself on the forehead.
Jinki nodded.
“I wish you could be as obvious as me, hyung.” Jonghyun sighed as he finally took his eyes off Jinki and looked at the night sky, “I can’t exactly tell how you feel about me… I doubt myself even more especially when I probably made you feel left out tonight… I really shouldn’t have brought you to the party.”
A moment passed before Jinki took in a deep breath and broke the silence.
“Jonghyun?”
“Yeah?”
When their eyes met, Jinki grinned and revealed something about himself that Jonghyun certainly didn’t know.
“I don’t like marshmallows.”
“Huh?” Jonghyun was visibly confused at Jinki’s sudden statement for a few seconds but he quickly caught on and questioned, “Then why did you…?”
“Because you make me want to do things I don’t usually do.” Jinki confessed after letting out a breath, “Not only that… but you also make me feel things I have never felt before.”
“Does that mean you-”
Jinki chuckled, “Let’s just say, I have a thing for marshmallows now.”
And that was all Jinki said as he then closed the distance between their lips and gave Jonghyun a more definite answer. With his hand wrapped around the nape of Jonghyun’s neck, Jinki brushed his lips over Jonghyun’s once, twice, thrice, successfully eliciting a dissatisfied groan from him before he kissed his boyfriend in a way he had never kissed anyone before. Their kiss was nothing short of amazing, more than enough to make them forget the world. When it naturally came to an end before things could get a little too out of hand in public, Jinki traced the edge of Jonghyun’s upper lip lightly with the tip of his tongue and kissed him once more.
Leaning his forehead against Jonghyun’s, Jinki shared a smile with his boyfriend, licking his own lips, as he couldn’t stop himself from saying the first thought that came into his mind.
“Mmm, tastes good.”
It was at that exact moment Jonghyun knew he would never find someone else that would understand him like Jinki did. Life was going to be a blast.
