Accidental Intentions; Minho/Key

In which Minho wants to be angry at Kibum but fails.

Author's Note: Inspired by shinee's appearance on After School Club, specifically the above photo and this as well as this fan account...

"Key cut his hand on something and was pouting about it. Minho put an arm around his waist and walked him off stage, looking at Key's hand. MinKey were lying on the ground for closeups and their fingers were touching. Then Minho held Key's hand until the camera man was ready."

“Ooh, so this is how the fans feel...”

Kibum murmured to himself as he sat cross legged before the cardboard standee he had just placed in front of him against the headboard of his bed. He never did understand why fans got excited if they saw standees of people they love or why some even wanted life size posters of their idols but now he knew. Though there was one thing Kibum had to say - the fans definitely had it better. In the case of shawols, they normally got a full body Minho that could actually stand by itself. Yet all he went home with is a (rather pathetic) cardboard Minho that not only couldn’t stand but was also cut off at the waist. The only thing Kibum couldn’t complain about was that at least the people at Arirang had good taste and chose an undeniably decent photo of Minho that flattered the rapper so much.

It had been more than 6 hours since they finished recording the live show but Kibum still couldn't get over the fact that he actually opened his mouth to ask if he could take the cardboard standee along with them when they left the studio. The rest of the members and even their manager had shot him looks but they thankfully remained silent, knowing it was better not to make a big deal out of it. Although Kibum had pretended not to see those looks, inside, he was questioning himself too. Now that he was safe in the privacy of his room with silence as his only companion, Kibum decided that it was probably because he missed his boyfriend too much. Damn Minho and his stupid acting career that was always stealing the rapper away from shinee… scratch that, Kibum could live with that. There was something that annoyed him so much more. As much as his ego did not allow him to admit, what Kibum hated the most was how Minho as an actor meant that he couldn’t be the best boyfriend for Kibum. Without a doubt, Kibum felt a little too empty, as if a part of him was missing without Minho by his side.

Kibum couldn’t deny how the cardboard standee did in fact make him feel a tad better... better enough for him to get mischievous as he suddenly felt like playing a joke on his boyfriend, just so he could spice things up a bit. And so, Kibum reached out for his phone before he stretched to grab the standee and position it nicely beside himself. Placing an arm around cardboard Minho and leaning as close as he could without blocking his boyfriend's handsome face, Kibum clicked on the camera app and held his phone up at a perfect angle. He tried smiling first but decided against it because in the next second, Kibum had something better up his sleeve. Proud that he thought of such a brilliant idea, Kibum laughed to himself as he then turned his face towards cardboard Minho and leaned even closer, closing his eyes and pursing his lips to kiss cardboard Minho's cheek.

Click.

Kibum opened his eyes, looking at the screen of his phone to check the photo he had just captured. A bright smile instantly grew on his face.

“Perfect!” Kibum couldn’t help but comment out loud, very much satisfied with the first shot.

Lying down on his bed, Kibum rolled into a comfortable position, bringing cardboard Minho down with him, and laughed at the picture on his phone. All that was left to do was to send the photo to his boyfriend. With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Kibum opened KakaoTalk. Once he tapped on his individual chat with Minho, his fingers immediately got to work.

Minho, there’s something I have to admit…

And I think it’s easier for me to text you about this.

I did something terrible.

You’ve been barely around and I got lonely.

I cheated on you.

Once the fifth text bubble was sent, Kibum finally got to the main point of his prank and sent his selca to Minho. He couldn’t help but laugh out loud when the photo was successfully sent. With a grin now splitting his face, Kibum typed one last message to his boyfriend.

Forgive me?

With that, Kibum was left to wait for Minho’s reply.

Although he knew Minho’s reply wouldn’t come too soon, Kibum never thought he would actually fall asleep waiting for his boyfriend to get back to him. But he did. And when he woke up the next morning to his alarm and instinctively checked his phone for notifications, there was still nothing from Minho. Absolutely nothing. Was his boyfriend really that busy that he couldn’t even check his phone? Kibum was annoyed and upset but at least he could confront Minho face to face since they were about to meet each other at the TV station in two hours…

*

“Morning, guys.”

Kibum was fixing his hair in the mirror when Minho entered the waiting room and greeted everyone in a monotonous voice, looking like the walking dead.

“Did you even sleep?” Jonghyun was the first to respond as he questioned with a frown upon looking up from his phone.

“Somewhat. Slept for an hour or two on the way here.” Minho replied with a yawn, collapsing on the sofa, all ready to catch forty winks. However, his plan was ruined when their coordi noona scurried forward, instantly forcing him to sit upright so she could work on his makeup.

“Noona...” Minho groaned but that was all he could do because a quick look around the room made him realise he was the only one left with his makeup undone. Jonghyun was already getting his hair done while Onew and Taemin were a step ahead, busy fixing their mic packs onto their clothes, and well, Kibum was staring at him.

“Get some shut-eye while she works on you, idiot.” Kibum, whose eyes had been on Minho since he walked in, finally ended his silence by interrupting the rapper’s grumbles from where he was standing.

It was then that Minho finally turned to look at him properly but that was all Kibum got. One second later, Minho was back facing the mirror as he closed his eyes, without even giving any sort of response to Kibum and simply allowing their makeup artist to work the magic of eyeliner on him.

Obviously, Minho’s cold attitude did nothing to appease Kibum. It only added to Kibum’s frustration. Yet, as much as he wanted to storm forward and smack the back of his boyfriend’s head, Kibum could only hold it all in. Once he confronted Minho, he knew he was going to need the time to straighten things out with his boyfriend. Besides, work was work. Pre-recording was about to start once Minho was ready. So for now, Kibum reminded himself to stay professional and settle his personal affairs later.

*

It happened when Kibum had to grab hold of Taemin’s hand without so much as looking at where the maknae’s hand was as part of the choreography. That was when he felt the sharp edge of Taemin’s ring cut against his skin. It wasn’t painful enough for Kibum to stop the pre-recording because they still had half the song left to rehearse but it definitely stung. So when the music came to an end and they all fell onto the ground, Kibum’s first instinct was to check if the cut on his finger was serious while he got back onto his feet. There was a noticeable scratch on his finger where the first layer of his skin had been scraped off when Kibum was adjusting his grip on Taemin’s hand. The skin underneath was a pinkish-red that Kibum knew, if he were to squeeze the cut, there would be blood. With his eyebrows furrowed in a frown and a pout forming on his lips, Kibum was so concentrated on inspecting his wound that he had blocked out all that was happening around him during the break. He didn’t even know that Minho’s attention had been on him the entire time.

Until he suddenly felt an arm around his waist.

“Come on, let’s get that treated.” Came Minho’s low murmur in a volume only the two of them could hear.

The next thing Kibum knew, he was being led off the stage, the warm grip on his waist tight and secure. Kibum stole a glance at his boyfriend and realised Minho’s eyes were on his hand. However, it wasn’t that which made Kibum feel all warm inside. It was the worried frown which Minho didn’t bother to hide that warmed Kibum’s heart and made him forget all about the cut.

“So…” Having settled down at a makeshift table somewhere backstage, Kibum cleared his throat, watching Minho clean his wound with a first aid kit they got from the staff, before he went on to ask, “You’re not angry with me anymore?”

Minho looked up at Kibum for a moment before he let out a sigh and went back to attending to the cut on his boyfriend’s finger, “You knew I was angry?”

“Yes, Captain Obvious.” Kibum rolled his eyes, “Though I really don’t think it’s a big deal…”

“It’s not a big deal? Are you serious?” Minho huffed and began his mini rant, “I have every right to be angry when you happily tell the whole wide world that you’re never lonely without me! Do you that it’s such a hot topic right now? I mean, how would our fans think of us? Why would you even say that anyway, Kibum? Do you think it’s funny? That I would laugh it off?”

“But I just-” Kibum was just about to defend himself when he suddenly realised he and Minho didn’t sound like they were on the same page, “Wait, what?”

Minho narrowed his eyes at a confused Kibum, “Don’t tell me you have short term memory…”

Kibum shook his head and then asked, “Minho, have you checked your phone?”

It was Minho’s turn to be confused at Kibum’s sudden question as he, too, shook his head, “No. My battery died and I left it with manager hyung so he could charge it for me… that reminds me, I should go get it back.”

“No wonder…” Kibum thought out loud, finally understanding exactly why Minho had given him the cold shoulder, “You’re angry because I jokingly said I never felt lonely without you… oh Minho, baby, why so serious?”

As Kibum laughed, Minho maintained a straight face. “It’s not funny, bummie.”

“Ah.” Kibum bit his bottom lip nervously, “Then you definitely won’t like what you’re going to see later when you get your phone back.”

“What did you do, Kim Kibum?” Minho asked in a dangerous tone.

“Something that’s supposed to be funny?” Knowing that wasn’t enough to get Minho off his back, Kibum quickly added before Minho could say anything, “Minho, just know that I’m going crazy from missing you too much okay? That explains all the stupid stuff I’m doing…”

Minho raised an eyebrow at Kibum.

“Shut up.” Kibum wasn’t going to give his boyfriend a chance to tease him at all.

Minho let out a chuckle as he finally finished dressing Kibum’s wound and placed a bandage over the cut, “I didn’t say anything, bum.”

“You were about to.”

Minho shrugged his shoulders in reply as he closed the first aid kit and said, “All done. Come on, we should get back.”

“Thanks.” Nodding, Kibum muttered as he looked at his finger and then grumbled, “Stupid Taemin and his annoying rings… he needs to take them off.”

“Knowing Taemin, he probably already lost them by the end of the song…” Minho replied as he walked back towards the stage with Kibum following behind.

Sharing a laugh, they quickly rejoined the rest of the members who were already lying down in their positions on stage and waiting for their turn for their individual close-up shots. Minho and Kibum immediately followed suit and settled down on the floor. It wasn’t on purpose that their fingers brushed against each other but it was certainly intentional on Minho’s part to hold Kibum’s hand just because he wasn’t going to let this golden opportunity slip away.

If Kibum had the chance to joke that he never felt lonely without Minho by his side, it was only reasonable for Minho to have the right to go against Kibum and prove otherwise.

And Minho did just that. His point was easily made when Kibum allowed him to hold his hand and didn’t let go until the cameras started rolling.
