a/n: forgive me for updating so late, I had to attend to college responsibilities. This chapter is more of a character introduction chapter than plot chapter, so please bear with me for now ~ I’ll update soon c:
III. Introductions
“You want to help me?” Jaejoong repeats, his voice laced with doubt. “You don’t even know the half of it, how are you going to help me?”
Changmin glances at Yoochun and then back at Jaejoong. “We can’t talk here, you’re going to have to come with me.” Changmin smirks, “You are going to have to trust me on this one.”
“That’s not suspicious at all,” Jaejoong scoffed, “the Magistration has the entire police force out looking for me and here you come and telling me to come with you. You’re on their side.”
“Jaejoong, listen to me,” Changmin snaps impatiently, “we can’t talk here, it’s unsafe, the Magistration has eyes and ears everywhere.”
“Give me one good reason.” Jaejoong’s eyes meet Changmin’s in challenge, and Changmin’s eyes fight back.
“Daemons.”
The air is so heavy, Yoochun feels as though he could cut through it with a knife. Jaejoong takes a breath, “What do you know about Daemons?”
“I am one.” Changmin withdraws from Jaejoong’s glare and starts walking towards Yoochun, “Should I tell Jaejoong what you think of him?”
Yoochun eyes become wide, a hint of red starts flowing through his ear, and he starts to stammer, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” His eyes try to avoid Changmin’s and focuses on his feet.
“So you don’t want me to tell him about the dream you had last night.” Changmin now has Yoochun trapped against the door with both arms an opposite sides, “How you two ended up being as close as we are right now.” Changmin leans down and with his face inches from Yoochun’s ear he whispers so Jaejoong couldn’t hear him, “How you begged.”
“Enough,” Jaejoong grabs Changmin’s shoulder and rips him away from a highly embarrassed, and now slightly relieved, Yoochun.
“Is that good enough for you? Will you come with me now?” There is a spark of hope on Changmin’s face.
Jaejoong sighs heavily and does not answer.
“I can read your mind, if you don’t believe me I can get Sungmin to help me make you believe.” Changmin turns his attention towards Yoochun, “I figured that since you already told him about being a Daemon and such that it would be easier to show you.”
“How did you know I told …” Jaejoong stops when he realizes the stupidity of his question, mind reader.
“Yes, you’re catching on quite quickly, now will you come with me or do I have to call Sungmin in here?”
“Sungmin?” Yoochun interrupts.
“Sungmin’s a Daemon too, he can sense and control emotions,” Changmin affirms, “Why do you think you never had an angry or complaining customer before? We Daemons are exceptional at hiding our identities.”
“Fine, I go with you.” Jaejoong decides.
Changmin nods in agreement and adds, “You’ll trust me sooner or later.”
Sungmin is waiting for them outside the office when he sees the three men come out his attention immediately goes to Changmin. Jaejoong watches as they have a silent conversation and Changmin thanks Sungmin. When they finish Sungmin turns to Jaejoong with a comforting smile, “Don’t give him too hard a time ok? He might be a jerk but somewhere deep down there’s some good.”
Scoffing at the remark, Changmin takes out his phone and punches some numbers in. “It’s best if Yoochun doesn’t come.” Changmin does not wait for Jaejoong to reply and shows him his phone, “Captain’s orders.”
Yoochun looks warily at Jaejoong, “It’ll be ok right?”
“He’ll be fine,” Sungmin chimes in, “You really don’t want to piss Heechul off, he has a huge rule about no humans there.”
Jaejoong feels an odd feeling in the pit of his stomach and agrees without an argument.
“That’s cheating,” Changmin rolls his eyes at Sungmin. “You used your power.”
“Don’t call it cheating, call it being resourceful. You should be thankful.”

The blue sky is now melting into a soft pink and orange glow as the sun starts to set. Jaejoong wonders where Changmin is going to take him, “You’ll find out soon.” Changmin smiles and nudges towards a black car with darkly tinted windows coming towards them. The car comes to a stop and the driver gets out and opens the door for them. The car ride is unnervingly quiet and Jaejoong starts to worry, what if the Magistration hired Daemons to work for them. Changmin would be the type to work with the Magistration, he’s Yunho’s best friend, and he hated Jaejoong.
Next to Jaejoong, Changmin chuckles softly, “You really don’t trust me do you?”
“How can I trust someone who’s invading my mind without permission?” Jaejoong retorts, he forgot all about Changmin’s telepathy.
“I don’t hate you,” Changmin sighs, “It’s a really long story and I think Heechul would be able to explain it better than me.”
“Who’s Heechul?”
“Our,” Changmin pauses to find the correct word and it comes out like a question, “Leader.”
Jaejoong doesn’t ask any more questions the rest of the car ride, even though he’s sure Changmin is lurking in the depths of his thoughts somewhere. Suddenly the tires switching from humming smoothly on the road to crunching over gravel and Jaejoong sees an abandoned warehouse. The tires crunch for a couple more seconds until the car comes to a halt and the driver opens the door for him. The unmistakable sound of someone yelling finds its way through the cement walls of the building and Changmin shakes his head.
“So much for Heechul trying to stay under cover.” He nudges Jaejoong towards the door and knocks three times.
“Shut up.” The door swings open and Jaejoong sees one of the most beautiful girls he’d ever laid his eyes on. Her blonde hair was up in a bun and her face was contorted into a look of disgust; even so, Jaejoong couldn’t help but stare.
“Enough Nana,” Changmin waved his hand in front of Jaejoong’s face and rolled his eyes at the blonde, “He doesn’t swing that way.”
“That’s too bad,” Nana pouted, stepping away from the door to let both men in.
Changmin began the introductions, “Jaejoong, Nana. Nana, Jaejoong.” He waves his hands in front of Jaejoong’s face again, “Stop gawking, she only appears to be pretty, her power is seduction, enough to make any man or woman fall for her.”
A sharp sting hit Changmin’s shoulder and he jumps back rubbing the sore spot, “What was that for?”
Nana snarled at Changmin and rolls her eyes, “I’m beautiful. The power is a plus.”
A different voice rang from the door way, this time a man’s voice, “I thought I heard you,” the voice is deep and it seemed like it resonated off the walls. Jaejoong looked over to see the owner, and his eyes found silver hair.
“T.O.P,” Changmin smiled, “This is Jaejoong.”
“So you’re the heir to the Magistrate,” T.O.P pursed his lips and walked towards Jaejoong holding out his hand. “I’m Seunghyun, but everyone calls me T.O.P, I’m a dream walker daemon.”
Jaejoong smiled and took T.O.P’s hand, “Nice to meet you,” he bowed slightly.
“Pleasure’s all mine, but a warning to you, not everyone here is as,” pausing to choose his word carefully he says it slowly, “calm, as me.”
“Liar,” Another voice comes from the doorway.
“Speaking of which,” Changmin interrupts, “Jae, this is Nichkhun.” He points towards a man with glasses. “He’s a human lie detector.”
“It’s quiet annoying really,” T.O.P grumbles under his breath.
“I’d really love to stay and chat but where’s Heechul?” Changmin seems slightly aggravated by the endless introductions.
“I think he’s downstairs,” the owner of the voice is walking down the stairs, shirtless.
“Put on a shirt Joon,” a different girl’s voice rang from the top of the stairs.
Joon, stops and smiles widely at the girl at the top of the stairs, “Make me.”
At this point, Jaejoong wonders how many daemons are living under the same roof, and more importantly, how do they have room for extra inhuman abilities. He feels a body brush against his shoulder, “The only people you haven’t seen are Jessica, and more importantly, Heechul.” Changmin whispers, trying to plan a quiet get away to find Heechul. “That’s Joon, he can inflict mental pain on people. And that’s his sister, Tiffany; she deprives you of your senses. If I were you, I’d be scared if they ever stop fighting.”
“Rude much,” Changmin and Jaejoong turn around to face another girl, Jaejoong concluded that she was the other daemon they haven’t met yet, Jessica. “I’m very important.”
“I agree, but we really have to find Heechul.” Changmin checks his watch.
Jessica grimaces and shoves Changmin to the side, turning to Jaejoong, “Hi, I'm Jessica, I’m a memory daemon.”
Jaejoong smiles and bows politely, “Nice to meet you.”
“I’ll take you to Heechul,” Jessica smiles and turns on her heel, her long hair intentionally slapping Changmin in the face
