Breaking the Rules
Jaejoong&Yoochun. PG through NC-17. 1306w.
After an encounter with Kim Jaejoong on that rainy night, Yoochun’s world would never be the same again.

I. Reasons

Yoochun is awakened by the smell of coffee, that seemed a little bit on the strong side; he blinks to get his vision focused on the clock he has mounted on the wall, eight thirty. Finally, he realizes that he is not the one that brewed the coffee and that he has a guest in his apartment, not just any guest in that matter, Kim Jaejoong.

Slipping out from under the warm comforter, he gives in to the lure of the coffee's aroma and makes his way to the kitchen. Jaejoong has the news on and is flicking back and forth between different channels; they all report the same thing “Kim Jaejoong, Heir to Magistration, Missing”. Some channels reported more radical ideas, “Kim Jaejoong, Heir to the Magistration, Kidnapped”. None of them reported, “Kim Jaejoong, Heir to the Magistration, Runs away from home”, of course they wouldn’t that would mean that the Magistrates are slacking on their responsibilities (in their own little world nonetheless), order and obedience are what their world runs on.

“Good morning,” Jaejoong does not even look back.

“Morning,” Yoochun answered.

Jaejoong stops at a particular channel and it is showing a recording of a taxi speeding away, a reporter appears on the screen, “Kim Jaejoong was last seen last night being whisked into the back of a taxi cab. We have obtained the driver and he is now being questioned by the authorities.”

Yoochun hears Jaejoong scoff, “Uh,” he begins but does not finish, the driver is sure to tell them where he dropped them off.

“Don’t worry, I gave him a bit extra to tell them that he dropped me off at the train station.” Jaejoong senses Yoochun’s worry, “and that I was alone in the cab.”

“Oh ok,” relieved Yoochun goes to grab a cup from the cabinet.

“Do you want me to make you a cup?” Jaejoong is suddenly by his side.

“N-No thanks,” Yoochun tries to calm his pounding heart from the abrupt appearance.

Jaejoong smiles and takes the cup from his hand, “It was a rhetoric question, and besides the least I can do.”

Yoochun watches as Jaejoong pours the black liquid into the mug, he wants to ask Jaejoong why he can't go back to the Magisterium, why he ran away in the first place.

“Cream? Sugar?” Jaejoong looks up, “I hope you don’t mind, I raided your kitchen, you need to go grocery shopping.”

“Just black,” grocery shopping? “How long are you staying?” Yoochun is irritated that this man just invited himself into Yoochun’s life, even if he was Kim Jaejoong. Reality hits Yoochun, Kim Jaejoong is standing in his kitchen and making him coffee. The heir that no one has seen in real life besides from behind a screen, the untouched prince, the man that echoed perfection, seemed so normal standing in his kitchen (well, a pathetic excuse for a kitchen).

“As long as you’ll allow me,” Jaejoong hands Yoochun the warm mug, “I can leave if you want.” Jaejoong finishes half-heartedly hoping Yoochun would let him stay.

Now Yoochun is left with a decision, to be or not to be the good guy; he already played good guy by letting Jaejoong stay the night. He weighs the consequences, if the authorities find out that Yoochun has been hiding Jaejoong he would surely be arrested and put into jail for life or just killed on the spot. If he does help Jaejoong, Jaejoong could probably talk the Magistration to let Yoochun go free, but that depended on what kind of person Jaejoong is. Yoochun gives himself a couple more seconds of deliberation and decides that he would let Jaejoong stay. Where else could he go?

“You can stay,” Yoochun mutters in disbelief with himself. “On one condition, you ha ve to tell me why I’m allowing the Magister’s son to stay at my house.”

Jaejoong considers these terms for a moment and then replies, “Sit,” as he waves lazily at Yoochun’s overused couch. Yoochun lowers himself to the couch and Jaejoong takes the furthest spot away from him.

“My father hates me.” Jaejoong states bluntly without any emotion, as if he has known this his entire life. “He has a bastard son that he wants to assume the Magister's position.”

Yoochun did not know what to say, so he pulls his bottom lip between his teeth and continues to listen.

“He cheated on my mother, with her only other sister, and had my mother killed in an automobile accident.” Jaejoong’s tone resonated with bitterness, “And then he took his bastard son in under the pretenses that he was his nephew, to help my mother’s sister cope with my mother’s death.”

Yoochun now knows who Jaejoong is referring to, Jung Yunho.

“We grew up together, learning to hate each other, my father always told me that I was never going to take over the Magistration, that Yunho would be the heir. I am just there for show, so people think that I will be the one to take over. I always tried to gain my place back, but I was unwanted and punished all the time, even for the things that Yunho had done.” He paused, “Well, only because of Yunho; if he did something wrong I was punished for it. I tried to be the perfect son, keeping quiet and accepting the situation, even if I knew I wasn’t going to be heir; I thought that I would be able to change his mind.”

Yoochun remembers hearing about the automobile accident it happened when he was ten, it was the talk of the whole month, people mourning the death of the kind and gentle hearted Magister’s wife.

“I always wondered how my father was going to pull it off, how to get the people to accept Yunho as heir. Then I found out that his plan was to make me disappear, just like my mother. Then the next in line would have to be Yunho.”

Understanding the situation, Yoochun nods and concludes, “So you ran away and somehow managed to end up in my taxi and then in my apartment.”

“Life’s coincidences.”

“What I don’t get is why your father hates you in the first place.”

Jaejoong stalls for a moment, trying to find the right words to say, “There are people in this world who aren’t human, people who have a special gifts, Daemons.”

This was getting to be a bit much for Yoochun to handle now, he can understand the internal affairs of the Magister and how Jaejoong is on the run for his life. But Daemons? Special gifts? “What the hell are you smoking?”

Jaejoong tosses Yoochun a deadly glare and continues, “The existence of Daemons is the Magistration’s most well kept secret. Most of them are killed off before they gain their abilities, others are held captive for science, and the lucky ones are walking among the human race in perfect harmony.”

“Then, y-you’re a Daemon?”

“My mom accepted me and fought for my life, she would not let my father get rid of me. How could he? The world knew that I was his only heir. So my father kept me as a face, to show the world that the Magistration is perfect in everyway.”

Yoochun stares at the rejected coffee cup on the stained coffee table, willing himself to wake up again, but to no avail, “And your special gift is?” he tries to bite back the sarcasm.

“I’m not exactly sure how it works, but I managed to use it on Yunho a few times. I can turn what you see in your mind to your deepest fear. The abilities that daemons have aren’t physical, more like mind tricks.”

Yoochun shudders, he didn’t know what he feared most, and he most certainly did not want to find out.
