(no subject)
(1) i was wasting time watching mtv cribs and i have a question: who the fuck is baby? i know he's a cash money (or ca$h money) millionaire, but does this guy make records or does he just make random guest appearances on lil' wayne songs? i mean, by the way he sounds, baby either refers to his mumbling all the time or he's barely literate, or both.
(2) as a former reading teacher, i hate the fact that a lot of people are illiterate. i don't understand why parents don't teach their kids to read beforehand; i think not teaching them to read before school begins should be considered a form of child endangerment. i taught a kid in my class who couldn't get a job at mcdonald's because they didn't know how to read, and that's shameful. even though i don't teach now, i think there is a level of responsibility for parents to teach their kids at least how to function in the real world.
(3) i can't believe that it's been almost a year and a half since i stopped teaching and i'm glad i'm out of there and out of baltimore. jesus christ, that was awful.
(4) i'm watching some mtv2 show ("human giant") with aziz ansari and he's kind of funny, but i think he's only funny because he's incongruously indian. i mean, i think indian people (myself included) aren't funny in general. and why do they keep playing the first 5 tracks on that death from above 1979 album over and over again? and not even the first 5 tracks really -- but "romantic rights" (which incidentally is an awesome song, but not over and over again)?
(5) a few months ago when i was in san francisco, i went to aquarius and bought the alcest album and i really like it, and now i'm really into peste noire and amesoeurs -- the ep of which is awesome and, probably, one of the best eps that i have heard in the past 2 years. i just ordered the ep in question from germany -- to the extent that i had to decipher the german text -- and was it worth it? i think so.
(6) i'm going to chicago next week and that means also i'm going to reckless. there are no shows really next weekend, but i'll find something i guess. working for a nuclear free city and the most serene republic are at schuba's next week -- maybe i'll go to those.
(7) even though it's a game for the wii, i think the name "destroy all humans!" would be a really good name for a surf-rock band.
(8) i have to be vegetarian today because the anniversary of my grandmother's death is today. it is kind of minor, but even though i consider myself an atheist i still abide my those traditions. eh.
(9) i haven't been practicing or playing the guitar and though it might keep me occupied (and not drink too much out of boredom) i feel really apathetic. i don't know if it's the depression that makes me idle (or if the idleness is a symptom), but i need to start practicing more.
(10) i'm going to wisconsin from 9-11 march, and i'm kind of nervous. i haven't seen the financial offer from USC yet, but all things will come. my top choice is still USC, but i'm anxious to find out where i'm going to go.
