chapter 73 withinZero Kiryuu, along with his identical twin brother, Ichiru, were born into a well-known clan of vampire hunters, and therefore raised to follow that path. Despite his young age, as Zero was taught the skills he would need, and how to hone the natural abilities gifted to those born into hunter families, he was quickly recognized by the Hunters' Association as a child prodigy. Although their parents were often away, the twins were both trained by and cared for by a fellow hunter, and led a relatively pleasant childhood; Zero additionally spent a good deal of his time watching over Ichiru, who, as the weaker twin, most often was ill.
Zero's life took a sharp turn when he was around 13 years old. Shizuka Hiou, a pureblood who was seeking vengeance for her ex-human companion and wrongly placed on the execution list and killed by the Kiryuu's, not only damned Zero by biting (therefore turning) him, but then murdered his parents as he lay helpless. Although Zero told him to run, Ichiru then willingly left alongside Shizuka.
He was taken in that same night to live with a man by the name of Kaien Cross; the Chairman of Cross Academy, Kaien also used to work as a vampire hunter, and had connections to the Hunters' Association. Arriving at the house, Zero met Yuuki, Cross' adopted daughter. Both she and Zero would become the prefects of Cross Academy, with keeping both Day Class students (humans) and Night Class students (vampires, although the Day Class were unaware) separate as their primary job. Also one to keep an eye between the Day & Night students (as well as the individual who both rescued and brought Yuuki to Cross) was Kaname Kuran, whom Zero met not long after, and was immediately able to sense. As he was a pureblood vampire (like Shizuka), Zero took an immediate distaste to Kaname.
While Chairman Cross knew already, the fact that Zero was a vampire didn't reveal itself to Yuuki until he was 17, and it was too late. His body had continuously rejected the blood-substitute tablets, and upon succumbing to a most painful, aching hunger, he bit Yuuki. Ironically enough, however, it was she who offered to help Zero by offering her blood to him. Although sharing blood from a human to vampire was taboo, Zero soon gave in. This method would only last for so long, unfortunately.
It didn't take long for Zero to notice Shizuka's presence when she showed up once more, enrolling into Cross Academy by using the body of her distant relative, Maria Kurenai. Shizuka used Yuuki's desire to save & protect Zero from becoming a Level E by offering her a deal: either kill Kaname for her, or be bitten & turned. As Yuuki adored Kaname, the choice was simple. Luckily, Zero was able to reach Yuuki just before Shizuka bit her, however she hadn't arrived alone. By Shizuka's side was Ichiru Kiryuu. He had become Shizuka's servant, and was allowed to drink her blood, which cured him of his ailments.
Since the attack, the one thing Zero desired more than anything, and his sole reason to continue living, was so he could one day kill Shizuka to avenge his family. Unfortunately, as vampires cannot kill their creators, the shot Zero took only injured Shizuka. It would be Kaname who took Shizuka's life. Even so, as the act was behind closed doors, Zero was blamed for the murder, and initially, sentenced to death, since killing a pureblood vampire was seen as a serious crime.
Perhaps surprisingly so, it was also Kaname who spoke with the Vampire Council to look past the murder for Zero. Additionally, as Yuuki's blood did less and less to keep Zero from losing his sanity, Kaname soon allowed Zero to feed from him, which in turn rid Yuuki of one of her many fears. It clearly wasn't something the latter was entirely willing to do. Both of Kaname's decisions would later prove to be actions taken with an ulterior motive.
Zero was hit hard when he came to learn the facts about Yuuki's forgotten past that had unraveled. Not only did she happen to be a pureblood vampire, but also was the younger sister of Kaname. The news both devastated and infuriated him.
Having fed from both Yuuki and Kaname, and Shizuka by proxy, thus having the blood of three purebloods within him, in addition to being a hunter from the Kiryuu family, Zero was considered quite powerful (and potentially dangerous and unstable) by the president of the Hunters' Association. Against being used, however, Zero was imprisoned.
While he sat within the prison, a visit from Kaname revealed that Zero had been a part of a much larger plan. He was, in fact, the ancestor of Kuran; awoken by Rido Kuran (Kaname's uncle, a power-hungry vampire after the purest blood of the Kuran lineage), Kaname had raised Zero to become the one who would destroy Rido, as Kaname himself wouldn't be capable of doing so. While Zero replied that he wasn't obligated to do anything for him, the fact that Yuuki would never be safe, so long as Rido existed, got Zero's attention.
A visit from Ichiru would follow soon after. It came as a surprise, at first, when he picked up the Bloody Rose and shot Zero in the shoulder. During this time, Ichiru remembered their past together, before their parents were killed. Being as ill as he was, Ichiru often wondered why they had been born separately. Conceiving twins within a hunter family was incredibly rare as it is. If or when it occurs, there are only two possible results: both will be still-born, or, before growing self-aware, the two fetuses will "fight" within the womb. With the latter, the stronger of the two will inevitably devour the weaker, and only one child will be born. In the case of the Kiryuu twins, Ichiru's survival as the weaker twin could be very well be seen as a miracle. He went on to explain to Zero that he only wanted to make Shizuka's wish come true: to kill the individual (Rido) who placed Shizuka's lover on the target list, even though he wasn't a Level E yet. This was the real reason behind the death of Ichiru and Zero's parents.
Suffering from a wound inflicted by Rido when he stabbed the pureblood to avenge Shizuka, Ichiru soon collapsed to the floor, holding onto Zero. With the last bit of energy, he explained that even if Zero wouldn't forgive Shizuka, he shouldn't hate her; that he had been taken care of. The two had become different species from one another, but they remained twins, and Ichiru was very soothed by being in Zero's presence, and of being told that their parents loved him (Ichiru) deeply.
Zero was then told, within Ichiru's last breaths, to drink from him the last bit of his life. In doing so, Zero would gain the strength from Ichiru that he should have taken from before birth, and be complete.
Following such a demand was clearly difficult for Zero, but he did so.
Zero soon found Rido, who was fighting against Yuuki, after leaving the prison. The energy within Zero had already begun to manifest; because of this, Bloody Rose produced metallic-like rose vines, which also converged with Zero's body. When Yuuki began to fight alongside Zero, he coldly told her that she was his enemy, despite her claim that she'll always be Zero's ally. Ignoring this, Zero pushed Yuuki aside, in order to fight Rido himself.
In the end, it was both he and Yuuki who defeated Rido.
Once Rido was gone, however, Zero turned his gun on Yuuki, telling her that, although she'd done nothing wrong, his goal was to destroy all pureblood vampires in existence. Yet, shooting Yuuki wasn't something Zero found himself capable of. The memories of the past four years of his life living around Yuuki were too much for Zero to handle. His attachment to her, the way she always took care of him, her honesty, kindness, and the safety Zero felt with her couldn't be forgotten.
Zero was quick to greet Kaname with Bloody Rose upon his arrival on the scene by stating his intentions to kill all of the purebloods, and that Kaname would be the next to go. Even as Kaname replied, however, livid from the fact that Zero had pointed his gun at Yuuki, the vines from Bloody Rose continued to wrap further around Kaname's arm, managing to completely sever his hand. It was to Zero's surprise when Kaname asked Bloody Rose to stop its attack on him and then proceeded to manipulate the blood from his wrist into a scythe. If it hadn't been for Yuuki intervening, the two likely would have fought.
Eventually, Kaname left, allowing Yuuki to say her goodbyes to Zero.
Doing so was a struggle for Zero. Bloody Rose had tangled itself around his body, practically attacking and drinking his blood, until Yuuki was able to remove the gun from Zero's hand. Still, it didn't make the situation much easier for Zero to deal with. Even so, his frustration with what had happened, and the way he felt in regards to the truth about Yuuki didn't seem to last.
Zero simply held her and asked if the Yuuki he knew was still within her. She told Zero about how the two "sides" of her were really just one in the same, only to trail off, nearly dazed when Zero pulled her in closer. With a confession of just how much he desired & needed her blood, Zero bit Yuuki one last time before kissing her, content to know that she no long had any fears or worries now that she had her memories back. He felt satisfied, able to continue towards his goal, even if she wasn't going to be at his side. Nevertheless, Zero also told her that the next time they faced each other, he would kill her.
Yuuki's only reply was that if Zero planned to do so, then she would keep running away from him, so that he would have an enemy to go after.
One year passed.
Over that year, Zero continued to attend school, and also began to live in an apartment on his own. He'd especially preferred this to the dormitories because his thirst for blood had only increased, often growing unbearable out of his control during the night hours. If he couldn't hunt vampires, Zero didn't know what he'd end up doing. Despite how many he would kill, it was never enough to satisfy him. It also seemed that his need for blood tablets had increased. Instead of one or two, somewhere within the past year, Zero began to down them.
Upon a visit from Cross, Zero was informed of Kaname's actions; that work had been done in order to bring the vampire society back under control, and Kaname had requested to speak before the recently rebuilt Hunter Association as the representative of the vampire race, in order discuss a coexistence. Although Zero wouldn't trust Kaname's words so easily, he knew that the pureblood needed to be kept around, in order to get the vampires under control, and decided he wouldn't kill him right away.
Due to his strength as both a vampire and a hunter, Zero was slated to be the next president of the Hunter's Association, and would attend the meeting when the other head hunters went to speak of the coexistence with Kaname and members of the Council.
Zero was taken by surprise one day upon seeing Kaito Takamiya, a fellow hunter who trained under Yagari for some time along with Zero and Ichiru when the twins were still young. Kaito was called in to assist in helping with the new organization of the Association's system, however his appearance would later prove to be for a different reason.
Taking place after the meeting was a ball, one that included both vampires and hunters, that was to further implement cooperation between the two groups to work together toward peace. It was an idea that Zero wasn't very fond of. Still, along with Kaito, Zero didn't argue the fact and stuck to his surveillance duties. Near the end, however, not long after being informed by Aidou that he and Yori (Yuuki's childhood best friend who had been snuck in by Kaito) were allowed to see Yuuki for some time (which Zero declined), the body of another hunter was discovered, in co-ordinance with the disappearance of another pureblood (Ouri) who was to be at the party. After being bitten (by a different pureblood), the hunter had used her anti-vampire weapon against herself to take her own life.
Yuuki showed up on the scene not long after both Zero and Cross began assessing the situation. While Zero briefly explained to Yuuki what had happened, when she claimed she would assist in finding who the culprit was, his reply was cold. Soon Kaname arrived and told Yuuki that she should return before the blood affected her. However, it was Zero who replied to him. Given what just happened, the party was definitely over.
Neither Zero or Kaito were too surprised with the official conclusion that the Association came to in regards to what happened at the ball, although it wouldn't be the end of things. The discussion between the two of them eventually led to Kaito discovering a small (anti-vampire) pistol that Zero kept beneath his pillow - the same gun that Zero had given to Yuuki some time ago, as a sort of security, when the threat of him falling to Level E was still all too real. Zero proceeded to take in a number of blood tablets even as Kaito commented that he was eating too much. Kaito pressed about the gun when Zero didn't reply, making allegations that he, although suitable for the position as the next Association president, was far too emotionally unstable. Although Zero denied feeling as such, he explained that the weapon had been in someone's (Yuuki) possession, and when the security was no longer needed and said person had left, the gun was returned to Zero. He continued to keep it close as it helped to ease how restless he felt during the times when the temptation to go kill vampires was almost too much.
Zero only stated his opinion about purebloods when Kaito asked him if the vampires he wants to kill include "that pureblood from the ball" (meaning Yuuki), and it was then revealed by Kaito that he was directed to go to Cross Academy in order to keep an eye on Zero.
A short time later, the two make a visit to Dahlia Academy Girls' School upon being informed of a vampire's presence. It was Zero who noticed first, rather quick to take off and locate the individual. Upon realizing it was Sara Shirabuki - a pureblood, who had also attended the ball - Zero began to withdraw his gun, the exhilaration of getting to kill a pureblood surfacing on his face in a creeping grin. He was told off, however, by Sara, who explained that she had done nothing wrong. The rules had been followed when she bit and turned the three school girls who were trailing behind her, and because of that, there was no reason for her to be executed.
Livid as he already was, Sara continued to taunt Zero. She could tell just by his eyes how badly he was itching to kill purebloods even while smelling, reeking of pure vampire blood; she couldn't tell just how much Kuran blood Zero had consumed, but he may as well be a dog they abandoned.
Kaito arrived on the scene moments later, after Sara and the others had left, taken back by how Zero wore the look of a vampire who just missed his prey. Instead of go report to the Association about what had happened at the school, Zero was directed (by Kaito) to go see the head doctor to be prescribed heavy-duty sleeping pills; to take a few days off and rest, for the sake of his work.
However, before anything, Zero was to visit his family at the cemetery. That he should go in order to remind himself of one of the clear differences between humans and vampires.
It was difficult for Zero to not think of the events from earlier while lying upon Ichiru's grave; he knew there was no denying exactly what he had felt when facing Sara, the opportunity to kill a pureblood having filled him with a lust all to similar to a vampire's desire for blood. Even as he questioned himself aloud of whether or not there still was a piece of humanity within him, Zero knew that it was too late to think of the differences between races, as Kaito had spoken of. It was too late for him to consider.
Ichiru appeared at Zero's side not long after Zero admitted to him that he didn't remember how to feel human. Leaning upon his brother, Zero didn't reply to the way Ichiru spoke to him; to the way Ichiru asked why Zero was speaking to the grave, when he wasn't inside, but rather in Zero; a part of him. He asked if Zero had finally come to accept what had happened a year ago; if he was finally going to listen to Ichiru's voice. "Tell me, what are humans?" Ichiru had asked, and explained how there were humans who (just like vampires) also desired to have the blood of pureblood vampires. He told Zero that he needed to stop being so serious, and really think about it.
Just as they were before he died, the last thing Ichiru told Zero before he disappeared again was to live on and fulfill his goal, and that whatever he did, the meaning of those words was the one thing that Ichiru didn't want Zero to get wrong.
Yuuki's presence came unexpectedly to Zero as he approached the cemetery gates to leave, the scent of her blood stirring something within him.
He stepped passed the gates to see that Yuuki had been injured, with Aidou crouching beside her as she attempted to collect herself. Zero drew Bloody Rose before anyone could say a word. While Aidou initially read it as Zero targeting Yuuki, it was in fact aimed at a fourth party, who had appeared behind the other two; a boyish looking vampire, and the head of the pureblood Touma family, seemed rather pleased when Zero noticed him. Touma expressed how he wished to continue antagonizing Yuuki, however abided by Zero's threats, and left.
Just as Yuuki passed out, Zero scooped her over his shoulder. He then brought her, along with Aidou, to a safe-house owned by the Association.
The plan was to give Yuuki blood tablets once Yuuki woke. It didn't take long before she did, still within Zero's hold. He stood, almost passively so, as Yuuki, presumably in a daze, leaned in and licked Zero's throat, coming close to biting him. She caught herself, however, and returned his gaze with a startled look of her own, bristled, and requested he set her down.
Although Zero began to comment upon Yuuki apologizing, the window within the room shattered. She awkwardly apologized again to him for what had happened, and left through the window with haste.
Aidou was then arrested, with Zero stating that they (the Association) don't actually need to suspect a vampire of anything in order to bring them in. The ride there proved fairly tense, on Aidou's behalf, and he called Zero out on his feelings.
A comment that Aidou made to Zero as they made their way through the Association building, regarding how it felt as though the hunter weapons in the area were stirring & resonating angrily, had Zero telling him that they were above the deep underground furnace that contained the base metal for their weapons. It led Zero to explain the origins of how they came to be; of how a woman, from the far distant past, who would later be referred to as one of the first ancestors of the vampire race, had come to the humans in secret, telling them of a method of how that could gain the ability to fight vampires. Humans at that time had no chance against the vampires, and the ex-human servants they were creating. It was explained that that woman gave the humans enough of her blood that many were poisoned and killed when consuming it, but those able to absorb it into their bodies and survive became the first group of vampire hunters. After that, the woman tore out her own heart and tossed it into a huge vat of molten metal. Because of the woman's sacrifice, the hunters' ancestors gained a weapon that would allow them, and all the hunters to come, to successfully kill vampires.
Zero and Aidou are briefly stopped en route by Kaito, who questions what Zero is doing, after he had been told earlier that day that he needed to take a few days off to rest. He simply replied to Kaito that he had caught one of Kuran's people and thought he'd ask Aidou a few things. Seemingly amused by this, Kaito went with them.
With Kaito asking Aidou about if, due to recent rebellious behavior displayed by another pureblood in questioning, Kuran was eventually planning to oppose the Association. As learned, and initially known by Zero and Kaito (who were present at the school at the time), Sara Shirabuki had recently turned some of the girls, and Zero stated to Aidou that presently the Association was looking for any patterns amongst other purebloods; that anything might happen, no matter how tolerant or harmless the outward appearances may be.
As a result, interrogation led to questions regarding Kuran's possible behavior. In addition to Zero, Cross, Kaito, and Yagari also pressed Aidou for any possible information. He persistently insisted that Kaname had no such ties or plans with Sara. They continued to discuss Sara and her actions, which included Cross stating that she had been on poor behavior, and further mull over the possibility of Kaname acting, due to his past altercations with other purebloods- most recently being that the head of the Touma family had been punished.
Aidou mentioned that Zero would be able to explain why that had happened, and he did. A mere statement that two purebloods had gotten into a small argument, and the one punished had been the one who opted to strike first. When asked by Cross who the other pureblood was, Zero was vaguely reluctant to even state Yuuki's name.
Zero then guided Aidou into a holding cell, where the noble then apologized for what he said to Zero (about Zero's feelings, and what he should do) on the ride to the Association. The words were taken in stride as Zero left, however he soon returned, angered. Grabbing Aidou by the collar, he demanded that Aidou stop getting him involved with Yuuki's life, that Yuuki probably didn't ask for it, either. He claimed it a good thing when Aidou replied that Yuuki is presently just doing her best to follow in Kuran's path, and that he wouldn't ask about her intentions.
When told by Aidou that he should stop being so friendly with Yuuki, even after insisting that they should be enemies, Zero agreed, and left the room.
The next day (or fey days later) would have Zero in the stables at school. Sleeping, or trying to, he woke from what appeared to be a fitful dream, a bit startled & dazed when he grabbed the wrist of Yori, who had been calling his name. She had come to tell him that he was being called to class. She asked, then, looking at him, if he had been expecting to see Yuuki, with the way he had taken hold of her arm. Zero didn't reply, silent as Yori told him- reminded him- that they saw Yuuki at the ball, and seemed to be happy and doing fine. Yori said they should feel relieved that she's the same as in the past, and really not acting very strange at all.
Zero remained silent; thinking. As he walked down aisle to the stable's entrance, to follow Yori back to class, the horses grew noisy and agitated. It startled Yori, leading her to see Zero at the doorway, a hand covering his face. Even upon asking Zero if he was alright, he merely said it was nothing.
Later on, while doing paperwork at the Association headquarters, Kaito informed Zero of the recent events, as reported by the Association's president. By killing not only Lord Aidou, but the head of the pureblood Hanadagi family (currently for unknown reasons), Kaname Kuran was declared a dangerous vampire. Yuuki was also considered dangerous, and was taken into custody.
Zero and Yuuki crossed paths as she was taken in by Cross. He and Kaito, originally meant to assist in her interrogation, left on an emergency hunt. Since Kuran fled after murdering Lord Aidou and Hanadagi, the vampire society fell into disarray, and the vampires who would prefer to stir up trouble saw it as a chance to act.
It would seem that the vampire who Zero and Kaito were after had the ability to interfere with one's emotions. Whether it was due to this or not, Zero didn't manage to catch him, however a young child was rescued from the scene. - It's seen via Yuuki, who placed her hand upon the girl (leading Yuuki to see what she experienced), which "sucked out" the interference and returned her to normal, that supposedly Zero also fell victim to the vampire's ability.
Regardless, it would be Yuuki who ultimately took out the vampire, albeit by throwing and knocking him out with her handbag. Zero was at the scene, appearing displeased with the fact that "she took his prey," only for her to respond by telling Zero that he shouldn't have allowed the vampire to get away. Considering what had happened, he then questioned Yuuki by asking if she thought she would be able to hold her own against any number of vampires. Before she could respond, he continued with the fact that it was getting busier at the association, lately, and that Yuuki must be aware now of who had caused all the trouble.
Informing Yuuki that there were people from the Association following her, and to hand the vampire over to them, Zero left.
Back inside headquarters, Zero questioned Cross why Yuuki was being allowed to wander freely; that, if his goal was to draw Kuran out from where he'd disappeared to, then Cross should simply direct her to find him. Cross told him that presently, Yuuki won't be going after Kuran, and knew what she was to be doing. He told Zero that Yuuki must always have a guard with her, otherwise she would not be allowed out. It was much more strict than how Zero was allowed to act. Zero asked what she could even do on her own, though Cross stated the opposite. She did have someone.
Hearing as Yagari called for him, standing at the door to Cross' office with Yuuki, Zero left. He could hear Yuuki making a request from Cross just as the door closed.
From there, Zero went down to where Aidou had been placed to tell him that Yuuki, the one he (Aidou) was supposed to be keeping an eye on, was stirring up trouble, but if he's prefer to leave it like it was, that was also fine. If Aidou was concerned, or wanted details, he would need to ask Cross or Yuuki.
Despite this, Aidou believed that Zero came to see how he was doing, and to see if he was ridden with hate toward bother Kuran and Yuuki for what had happened (to his father), but then made the resolve that he would never become like that. "I won't become like you," Aidou said, "...no matter how hard that is right now."
Remaining silent as Aidou spoke, Zero then exited the cell.
It wasn't long after the incident that the Night Class is reinstated at Cross Academy. Similar to before, Zero, while continuing to attend as a student, had been appointed as one of the hunters to keep an eye on everything. With tension high, even though the Night Class began again, they and the Day Class were not allowed to come into contact with one another.
On the first day, trouble arose, however it was further into town. Although it was to Kaito's distaste to work alongside vampires, he and Zero allowed for Yuuki, after she had overheard the issue, and some other Night Class students to assist in stopping whatever activity was going on.
Zero showed up just as Yuuki was dealing with a vampire and his human companion, and shot the aforementioned without a second thought. In spite of Yuuki's frustration with his choice of action, he merely told her that she still is too soft on vampires. As if it wasn't enough, he then took Yuuki by her wrist while assuming that she still wore the bracelet that she was given over a year ago, and held it held it to the tattoo on his throat. Zero told her that if she truly didn't like the way he handled things, the taming spell between her bracelet and hunter charm would still work, and that she should force him to submit to her.
Angered, Yuuki pushed him away, stating she wouldn't need to. That was only if Zero were to fall to Level E.
Back inside the association headquarters, Zero went to find Yuuki to tell her that Takuma wished to speak with her. Zero stood just outside the open doorway, where he witnessed as Yuuki ate a few blood tablets. Riled up by the image, his own blood lust affected, Zero left, hand clutched to his chest.
He was met just outside the building by Sara Shirabuki. Feigning sympathy for him, she expressed her curiosity in "beings like him," going so far as to offer him her blood. It was Maria who showed up, then, asking Sara to back down. As the next president of the association, it wasn't wise for Sara to harass Zero.
Maria would come across Zero for a second time the following day. It's in the middle of the day, and within the Day Class courtyard. She was surprised to find that Zero didn't seem too alert when approached by a vampire, but only for Zero to pull Bloody Rose on her. She wasn't supposed to be in the area, however stated she was lost. Intending to direct her back, Maria thanked him for the day before, when dealing with Sara, even then curiously inquiring about how he didn't hate all vampires. If he didn't, Maria stated, then he would have already killed Yuuki. Maria continued to speak freely, in the belief that Zero must have felt betrayed by all that had happened with Yuuki, as she had been human for so long, but Zero stated otherwise. Never once had he thought that Yuuki betrayed him.
Too weakened by the sun, Zero ended up catching and carrying Maria back to her dorm. Even in her sickly state, she spoke openly about how Ichiru used to carry her as Zero was, scolding her. She had been searching for Ichiru, but would tell Zero that she found him. While in Zero's arms, she could feel both Ichiru, as well as fragments of Shizuka, within Zero.
Zero crossed paths with Yuuki after he had returned Maria to her room. It was there that Yuuki apologized to him for what had happened the other day, and that she would try to establish order with the Night Class, so to cause as little trouble as possible. Still, he warned her. Yuuki was in charge, so she can't let them get ahead of or walk over her; the moment something happens to any of the Day Class students, it would be over. If she couldn't handle it, and couldn't control them, then she should stop with her "game of school" right away. Yuuki openly replied that she knew she could stop, but was too scared of what the consequences of giving up would be.
And she would tell him that, in all honesty, she wished that they could speak together like they used to.
Believing that Yuuki was talking crazy from abstaining from blood for the first time in a while, Zero took her aside, outdoors. For the sake of their matching interests, he bit his wrist and offered his blood. He wasn't going to let her continue acting like a coward, when the state of her hunger was so apparent that it was clearly written upon her face. If she couldn't do it, then he would bring the Night Class to an end, after all.
Even while distressed over it all, Yuuki, hurt, exclaimed that Zero should have a little more pride in himself; he should appreciate himself more. Tentatively, she took his proffered wrist, yet only to tug Zero in, arm about him shoulder, with the aim to bite his throat, instead.
