Last night some of my friends and I went down to our favorite coffee shop, like we do.  It's usually a pretty nice place to sit and talk, and occasionally meet interesting people.

We're pretty much regulars there, along with some other groups we often see.  However, this is apparently not enough to keep them in the black.  So, they've started all these new gimmicks to get some fresh faces in there.  Last night was open mic night.  This was the first time I'd been to it,  (I don't make it out there many Tuesday nights.)  so I had no idea what to expect.

Well it was pretty standard procedure to start with a few soloists, and a few bands.  Most were decidedly mediocre, but a few were actually surprisingly good.  This one band, Unluckily, Number Seven, was absolutely fantastic.  They started off with the usual drums, bass and 2 guitar.  While acoustic isn't usually my forte, I can tolerate it in doses, but I would have happily listened to them all night.  Anyway, after 4 songs, they switched to drums, bass, ukulele and tambourine.  Hilarious.  One just can't not chuckle at a ukulele.  Luckily, they didn't push it, and exited after that. (Some other performers had a habit of over-staying their welcome.)

A few more performers, and then a number of the neighboring bar's patrons came in.  Open mic I can handle, drunken karaoke, I cannot. We left soon after they graced us with their presence, but stayed long enough to see one drunk girl fall stepping up onstage... in a mini-skirt... and that's it.  It was humorous, I won't lie, but I could have gone without seeing that.
