Moving (in and about) snow

If anyone local was wondering with a burning curiosity what it might have been like to move during Saturday's snowstorm, let me tell you...

December 19th was moving day and also the snowstorm of doom. Unsurprisingly it was just EL and I actually moving things into the truck that morning (I wouldn't expect anyone to come out to help on such a day). It took five hours to load the truck since we were going up and down three flights of stairs and there was all this white stuff falling on us and the ground. The drive to the new place took an hour and a half of VERY careful maneuvering (a trip that normally takes 35 to 45 minutes). There were drivers stuck on the road the whole way up (EL is not sure just HOW they managed to get stuck since the roads weren't THAT bad at the speeds everyone was going) but we were fine until we arrived at the parking lot.

My car got stuck. The truck got stuck. We freed my car quickly with shovels and helpful neighbors, but the truck remained in various states of stuckness for the next four hours. Another helpful neighbor came out with a sturdy vehicle and a towstrap but despite his efforts we were unable to park the truck in a place where we could unload it. Eventually we gave up for the night, put the truck out of the way, and went in to change out of wet socks and eat.  One day move FAIL.

Next morning, we (and by 'we' I mostly mean EL, who traitorously left me sleeping for another hour) and gave it another try.  After an hour and a half of early morning shoveling in front of the house and another hour and a half of sticking and unsticking the truck EL managed to park it in front of the house. A food break was taken and then it took 38 FRICKING MINUTES to unload the truck into the house.  Who'd have thunk it?

Four days later, boxes are disappearing but it's going to take a while to re-organize the house.

Strangely, U-Haul didn't charge us for the extra day.
