Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. :)

All Hallows' Eve as it is alternately called, Halloween is celebrated in many countries annually on Oct 31st. This festival is in true form dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs, and all the faithful departed. However popular culture, this day has become a source for celebrating horror and macabre instead, although this festival is influenced by the Celtic festival of Samhain marking the end of harvest season.

Popular Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror or Halloween-themed films.

Here is my dad posing with my Halloween decorations on my porch. :P
