Prologue: "This ancient obelisk stands sentinel along the track; Its weathered trunk appears to be etched in hieroglyphics; But no human hands have done this work, here nature rules" - By James Tipp. And so the series on Obelisks and Long Towers begins.

The top of the East Rock Mountain gives you this monument honoring soldiers and sailors who gave their lives in four wars - Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Mexican-American War and The Civil War. Built in 1887 and is beautifully constructed by Smith & Sperry of New Haven.

The top is graced by Angel of Peace raising an olive branch and holding a wreath - symbols of peace, harmony and hope. The Pedestal has 4 bronze sculptures depicting scenes from each of the four wars. Each sculpture is a female figure depicting a virtue - West holds a book for History; South holds a drawn sword for Patriotism; East holds a laurel wreath and trumpet for Victory; and North holds a horn for Prosperity.
