Prologue: This series showcases all the Fabrics from each state in India. Some could be something I could drape on or wear; and for some of the states it could be just a home décor item. It all depends what the state's fabric is. Hope you enjoy this journey to the colorful world of Indian Fabrics.

Next up is from a state from North West India - Rajasthan

The city of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is the primary hub for mirror work embroidery cloth. It has made it's way into all manner of fabric that make pillow covers, curtains, bedspreads, napkins, and even sarees. Originating in the 13th century during the Mughal period, the current art is though from the 17th century, and a tradition carried in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana.

This craft involved pieces of mirror or reflective metal in varied sizes and shapes, including circles, squares, triangles and polygons, are stitched meticulously on fabric such as georgette, chiffon, cotton, silk, and crepe in a beautiful manner. The mirror work from Rajasthan are particularly bold reflecting the state’s colorful culture and adding a touch of glimmer to traditional outfits.

I wore this traditional Rajasthani Lehenga Choli for Navratri Garbha event last year. The mirrors sparkled around while the colors created a vibrant me when I was dancing along with the music.
