Prologue: This series showcases all the Fabrics from each state in India. Some could be something I could drape on or wear; and for some of the states it could be just a home décor item. It all depends what the state's fabric is. Hope you enjoy this journey to the colorful world of Indian Fabrics.

Next up is from a state from South India - Karnataka

Famous for two kinds of sarees - Ilkal and Mysore Silk - I picked the Mysore Silk Saree for this post. Originally made during the reign of Vijayanagara Empire in 14th century, this silk is usually called as Mulberry Silk as the makers frequently use mulberry leaves to feed the silkworms. This fabric had its ups and downs over the centuries, but now Karnataka produces nearly 45% of the entire silk production in India.

The fabric exudes royalty and sophistication with its fine texture and intricate zari work making it a cherished choice for special occasions. Aptly names for the princely state of Mysore where it originated, typically it is hand woven and soft to touch; light to wear and easy to maintain.

I wore this burnished orange colored saree that belongs to my mom, although not that old. I love the softness it comes with and the way it drapes on me with numerous pleats giving it that elegant look. I accessorized it with pearl necklace and earrings and color-coordinated bangles on my wrists.

I wore this for a Sankranthi party last year where I invited my closest friends and treated them to traditional food and festivities.
