Prologue: This series showcases all the Fabrics from each state in India. Some could be something I could drape on or wear; and for some of the states it could be just a home décor item. It all depends what the state's fabric is. Hope you enjoy this journey to the colorful world of Indian Fabrics.
Next up is from another state that speaks the same language as mine, and has been part of a whole one - Andhra Pradesh
As with any state, there are more than one type of traditional sarees for Andhra Pradesh too - Dharamavaram Sarees, Guntur Sarees, Kalamkari Sarees, Mangalagiri Sarees, Venkatagiri Sarees and Uppada Sarees. The one I picked to represent this state is Kalamkari Saree.
Kalamkari is a type of hand-painted cotton textile using only natural dyes involving a total of twenty-three steps. There are two distinctive styles of Kalamkari art - Machilipatnam style and Srikalahasti style. With the modern world, the art has changed to digital printing on various kinds of materials other than traditional fabric.
I wore this for an event at my home last year celebrating the festival of Ugadi with friends.
