One of the biggest harvest festival in India is Sankranthi that is celebrated all over India with various names, but similar concepts. In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (the two Telugu speaking states), one if the biggest attraction are Gangireddulavaru (= Men dressed up with long mustaches and a musical instrument tug along their favorite bull which is equally decorated) who bring their decorated bulls to each and every house. We worship the bull and offer prayers and food asking for bountiful life for the rest of the year. Sadly this is becoming a fading tradition. That's why it was very important for me to be part of it when I was in India for Sankranthi this year.
