Splendid Structures: Kailash Temple at Ellora Caves, India

Prologue: A series that showcases the large statues, beautiful temples and churches I visit in my travels or I accidentally come across while taking an off-beaten path. And sometimes yes, I would include buildings and palaces too.
One of highlight of Ellora Caves is the World's largest single monolithic temple, Kailash Temple, in Cave 16. A megalith carved from a cliff face, it is considered one of the most remarkable cave temples in the world because of its size, architecture, and sculptural treatment. Along with a shine for Lord Shiva the temple boasts sculptures depicting Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shiva story and Vishnu story.
