-Edited to an open post for a while to check : Shawna, is it you?-

I lost around 80 bucks that night.

None of us were experts of course, and at the beginning, we betted based on the number assigned to the horses, and took tips from the counter women who the hot favourites were for each race. But, after 3 races, I decided to go against the norm, and eliminated the hot favourites, that's when I started to win a little :) Winning streak didn't last long so I again changed strategy, to choose horses based on their weirdest names.

That night, the counter women in our room seemed to be distracted by the men from my firm, who were mainly dressed up to theme, in their tux. One of them kept asking me so this one is lawyer, that one is lawyer is it.

I had never been to the turf club before , and was amazed at the huge number of punters there, in the stalls, within the private rooms etc. Must be really interesting for the counter ladies to see such a variety of people on race days. Can I ask your dad a silly question, if he knows it from his dad's time - the whip the jockeys use on the horses, do those hurt?

I should have asked your cousin for tips on the horses.
