Our government has really gotten away from the original designs of our founding fathers and began a downward spiral when politicians began running government as opposed to true leaders with a heart for the good of the republic. Nowhere is this more evident than in the oft failed foreign policy decisions made at all levels by both parties.
So many times I find myself saying how much i like this president or this congressman when the very next day they pull a bone head move that just pisses me right off. Where are the true Leaders? Where are the true patriots with an eye towards the well-being of the country? Where are the men (or women) willing to risk their wealth, power, prestige to do what is right for our country and stand in the face of the scum-sucking politicians?
Bhutto's death is sad. She was the face of democracy in Pakistan, however, I wonder if true democracy is possible in a country which was created by the most militant and radical arm of Islam. On one hand you have a female prime minister, while on the other hand sharia law gives no rights to women. Would true democracy in Pakistan result in the electino of a radical group such as Hamas in Palestine?
You are correct that they do themselves no favors. One group tries to give freedom while another wants to return to feudal society with medieval ideas. I am torn as to U.S. involvement in Pakistan, however a radical zealot government with nuclear weapons is far more frightening to me than the U.S. government pulling the strings.
I am so thankful I am in this country - be it democrat or republican in office, I know I am better off here than anywhere else in the world.
