My home is a little over a hundred years old. It sits on what is known as a pillar foundation, thus the doors are about three foot above ground level. There are three steps at each door and the top step is about three feet off the ground. Funny how that works isn't it? So yesterday I went to the back door to get Alexis' attention and in the middle of fighting my damn Oxygen hose I noticed that Bambi our rat terrier was making a run for it. I didn't want to let her out so I slammed the door before she could get there. Sadly for me, my top step is a normal tread size not a landing and I had the door strike me and knock me off the steps. I fell three feet onto the concrete sidewalk and skinned up my ankles and knees. The majority of my body fell on the dirt by the side walk and when I say lucky that's what I mean. I was lucky to land short of a five gallon bucket, I was lucky to have missed the garden statues. I was lucky to have the majority of my body hit dirt not concrete. You see I'm on a blood thinner and what might be a bump for the average person could kill me. If I break a blood vessle with my thin blood I could bleed out in a matter of moments. But, other than being sore today I am fine.. Oh and I now know why you shouldn't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!
