it's so byronic

Lately I've been feeling a lack of romance in my general reading and viewing. Where are the romcoms of 2012?! So when BBC's 2006 remake of Jane Eyre started on the telly a few weeks ago, I was hooked!

Then I realized I didn't HAVE to wait a whole week between episodes because its a non-american made-for-tv miniseries and can be seen in its entirety on youtube.

And so my addiction to byronic heroes was reawakened. In the span of 2 weeks I have watched the BBC's Jane Eyre, Emma (2009), Pursuasion, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1996) and, because I was convinced by this time that Toby Stephens was the perfect embodiment of an "alluring but dangerously intense tortured soul" byronic hero, his surprisingly comedic turn in the short-lived series Vexed.

Jane Eyre was my favourite miniseries in the set. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall could have been a very close second (or even first) if there had been more of the budding romance with the young farmer and less of the awful drunkard husband. Yes, I know it has to be driven home how terrible and cruel her marriage was. But give me my romance! Give me more young red-headed Toby Stephens courting an older (but absolutely gorgeous Tara Fitzgerald) married woman by gazing intensely and longingly at her from across a cold, grey room!

Alas, I seem to have hit a dead end. I want to watch more BBC period piece romances, but I haven't the slightest clue where to find a complete list of BBC miniseries nor any recommendations. Do you, my dear flist, have any suggestions? I'm still hungry for more Toby Stephens "byrony".
