[poll] Are Asian-Americans more liberal or conservative? You tell me.

Without looking at the image below this cut, please hazard a guess for the polls. You can base it on your family (if you are Asian-American), your friends or Asian acquaintances, or on American history, whatever. But don't base it on current politics in actual Asian countries, that would be a confounding factor.

Poll You are taking this with a grain of salt, right?

Clearly if you are Asian and want to be in power, you need to go to Hawaii or throw your cards in with Democrats. Interesting.

I have always been under the impression that Asians are conservative, or at least the older generation. Now, why would they be conservative, when every other minority or ethnic group has sided with the more liberal ideals? Here are some thoughts. I am almost serious about these thoughts. Almost. But not really.

0. Asian culture seems more traditional than progressive. I don't know what it's like in China or Vietnam or India, having never been there, but I am told they still do traditional things like arranged marriages. I may be wrong, but I don't think that is exactly indicative of a very liberal or progressive society. On the other hand, Asian nations overthrow emperors/kings/dictators/colonizing nations all the time, so they do act on a need for change. But is that because they want to be more liberal like other nations, or because they are tired of their progressive overlords and want to go back to their old-fashioned conservative ways?

1. Asians, no matter how poor they start off when they arrive in America, generally come to America to live a better life than in the country they were leaving. But once they get the opportunities they did not have in their old country, they seem loathe to give that same benefit to other groups. Although I think this would be true of any group that made the American Dream, not just Asians.

2. Relevant, Asians don't like other minorities. Perhaps they resent other minorities for not making the most of the help they are given by the government, help that Asians don't qualify for because they are not an "underrepresented" minority, and try to have as little to do with them as possible. Asians tend to stick to their own groups anyway, so even if an impoverished Asian needed food, they would not wait in line with other hobos and instead go to their richer relatives and mooch off of them forever.

3. Whatever feelings Asians have regarding their evil white overlords, those evil white overlords keep them in business and pay for their children's education. Perhaps they don't like the typical Republican's rhetoric, but they would keep their opinion to themselves because less trouble that way.

4. Incidentally, I know many older Asian women marry white men for their second marriage, more troublesome is an older Asian man marrying a white woman. Presumably there must be black/Asian biracial couples, because I see their children quite often in Texas, but I never see the couples themselves...

5. Finally, it could just be the old people. Older Asians are conservative because they're old and don't like this new stuff about giving rights to women and blacks, which they didn't have in the past and they did very well without them, thank you very much. This would be proved if all the Asians who are of the younger generation act more liberal, but I feel that they would change once they married and had children. Actually, I feel this would apply to anyone. It seems, from my observation, that many people believe they would lose too much if they remained liberal after marriage and children, and that's why they side with conservatives. It's not because they hate women or blacks or Muslims or black Muslim women, it's just that the risk-benefit ratio for them and their family favors conservative ideals, and they don't know any black Muslim women well enough to sacrifice their children's futures for them.

life's a bitch, random, poll
