A cure for insomnia - me talking about pharmacy

Jan 07, 2010 00:21

I am interning at a community health clinic in Waco, my undergraduate hometown. Waco had been the 19th poorest city in America, and is full of homeless people whom you have to see to believe. This clinic is doing great things for the families who need them. I (perhaps unwisely) express no opinion on the state of healthcare in America. All I can do is serve my patients to the best of my ability, and never place money over a human's well-being. Money, while important to me because I'm Asian, is not more important than honor and respect and just doing a good job and expecting nothing in return but an expensive luxury car and a house and vacations whenever I want.

Hah hah, just kidding.

Here is a neat picture of a board containing some of the symbols and the motto of pharmacy. Secundum Artem means according to the art, or to the appropriate standards of the profession. In pharmacy, it means to make your product as best as you can make it.

The mortar and pestle is another traditional symbol. Around the edges are traditional symbols of pharmacy in various nations. It consists of a green Greek cross (4 equal length arms) or the bowl of Hygeia, the Greek goddess of health. The bowl of Hygeia has one snake wrapped around it, so that is why you see all those cute little snakes looking into the bowls. The Germanic countries also use the letter A to stand for "apothekary" or however they spell it.

Anyways, I love snakes. Reptiles in general, back in my dinosaur days, but snakes especially.

It's been cold and miserable and I'm getting sick again. Sometimes... I don't know why I bother trying.

Everyone seems to be feeling sad and tired, but I just wanna say, the sun will shine again. Darkness won't last forever. If it did, well, there'd be more vampires about. And zombies. And do you see any vampires or zombies about? Do you?

i hate school, depression, life
