This may offend some, but everyone who knows anything about my writing knows that I write what I feel.
I was just thinking about how people try so hard to be something that they aren’t.
This touches on people who try to BE the opposite sex, people who think they are so “in touch” with black people that they secretly begin to think they have some sort of black cred (or even worse, that they ARE black - and that applies for people who swear they are Latino, too), people who think that just because they sympathize with someone that they are the same as them & “feel their pains”, black people who try to be as white as possible (yes, I used to be guilty of that).
So, it isn’t meant to offend, it’s just something that was on my mind. Before you jump down my throat, read what I said first and contemplate on how truthful it is.

And you will never be …
No matter how many dresses you buy
Or how much eye shadow you pile
You will never go through menstruation
And you will never be me.
No matter how “in touch” you are
How tan your skin will get
Or how much collagen you may inject
You will never be called what I’ve been called
And you will never be me.
No matter how vicious you whip your neck
How fast you snap your fingers
Or how well you strut in your heels
You will never bare a child
And you will never be me.
No matter how “urban” you are
How many melanin blessed people you date
Or how even how big your ass is
You will never be black
And you will never be me.
No matter how much you sympathize
How many African literature courses you take
How much you watch the news & get teary from the images of Middle Eastern people who are constantly in peril
You will never be called nigger
And you’ll never be called a terrorist, just because you wear a turban & are heard saying “Allah-u-Akbar”
Switch it up.
No matter how straight your hair is
No matter how easily it flows in the wind
You will never lose your melanin
And you will never be white.
No matter how you stay in the men’s clothing section
How you stand up when you piss
Or how much you wish you weren’t really a miss
You will never have a penis & you will only give X chromozomes
And you will never be a man
No matter how you slather your bleaching cream
How much of a valley girl accent you acquire
You’ll always be the black girl
And you will never be white.
No matter how you switch up your genealogy
Saying you’re 75% Indian, 20% white, and only 5% black
Your African nose is stronger than your pale tan face
And we can tell you aren’t white
And you, most of all, need to know …
You will never be white
