this weekend we went to sorrento, the coastal town where you can easily access the island of capri by ferry. rumor has it, the ferry and capri are very pricey, but i wouldn't know because my friends and i know how to work it. here are the highlights:
our hostel is a camp ground. and by camp ground i mean there are bungalows spread out over a few acres, there's a pool, and a path down to the "beach" which is actually just a huge flat rock/cliff that you can either lay on or jump off into the sea. also, like all of loyola ended up here this weekend, but we broke off from the big group.
we go to a bar maybe cooler than martini park -its all white with colored lights that slowly change. here we meet a group of guys, but don't worry they're american. this one starts talking to me then we start dancing -he's probably the best dancer i've every been with so i asked if he was gay. also his name is jamison and i just thought that was funny. he responded "no, but i might as well be." later i learn that this comment was in reference to the fact that he's married. the guys are actually pretty cool and stationed at the naval reserve in naples. all day they had been on their friend's huge boat (who was also there, gay, and super nice) and eventually they invited us to come out with them the next day. at the end of the night we exchange numbers and are told to call at 7 am and promised breakfast. we left them at around 3 am not really expecting them to follow through.
sure enough the next morning we call and they tell us to come on down to the marina. our hostel, however cool it is, is also a bit of hike into town, but we get there just in time. when we arrive, the police are giving them shit for being illegally docked and their paperwork isn't quite matching up, even the they are technically with NATO. we get out to sea and head for capri and sure enough, one of the guys makes us breakfast burritos.
they take us to this place where you can see the opening to a cave about 100 feet up on the island. on the side of the island there is a staircase that will take into the cave that you have to swim to. me and two of the guys go up there to check it up. it opens up like a cornucopia with stalactites and stalagmites all over. it is absolutely spectacular. it goes up a fairly steep slope and you can't see the end. since we had gone this far, we decided why not start climbing into the cave, barefoot and in our swimsuits. it was probably the highlight of my life and i can now say i've been spelunking!
they made us lunch and then later we went to this place where you have to swim through a cave to get to a little private beach. again, amazing. we hung out on the water for a while more then they brought us to the marina and we said our goodbyes quickly hopped off the boat.
we caused more chaos that night and the sorrento version of the masterbater found us and was yanking it while we were walking home. i screamed and i think he started going at it faster. gross.
ciao bellas! more later!
