He sat on the wooden beams, watching the world below pass by.
Everything here was colour and warm. Home was still colourful, bright plants, wild flowers, clear skies. But this place was personal. This place felt more like a home.
Noises were what alerted him to presence, his friends. He greeted them happily, nuzzling the woman and teasing the man, making them laugh with his antics. He was fed a piece of puff food, abating him enough that he went back to his perch, regarding his friends from above.
The boy tried to make the girl smile, he made her a hot drink and offered her the picture changer. she smiled at him, taking the small device and they both sat down. He liked the chance that his boy and girl would stop dancing around each other. The other girl that came around with the boy wasn’t that nice, and besides, his girl liked his boy, and his boy liked his girl. So really, he’d just need to help them.
Completely decided that the humans didn’t know what to do without him, Rex flew down from his perch and stretched himself across his boys lap, leaving his head on the girl and hoping to keep them both there.
Abby looked at Connor, who was absently stroking along Rex’s tail. She smiled a little, noticing for the first time the affection Connor had for Rex. “Abby?”
“Yeah.” Abby held her breath for a moment, wondering what was coming, hoping it was what she wanted. Since Caroline had left the picture, since the ‘incident’ as it was dubbed; because no one could come to say ‘Stephen’s death’ just yet, Abby had been waiting and hoping that Connor would get around to what she thought he wanted to do when he broke up with Caroline.
“You fancy going out for dinner, I mean, y’know, after everything maybe we could do with some fun. I thought maybe we’d go out as friends, you know, for dinner, maybe something fun. Do the relaxing thing. I mean we don’t need to but I was just wondering if it would be a good idea and maybe we’d be able to …”
“Connor,” Abby stopped him with a smile and a hand on his knee, “I’d love to. But not as friends.”
“What?” Abby laughed a little at his expression. Despite everything he tried to pull off, despite the thing with Caroline and what he said to Leek, Connor really wasn’t very good with girls.
“Lets not do the friend thing. Yeah?” Abby moved closer to Connor, leaning her shoulder against his arm and resting her head on his shoulder. “Let’s do the more than friends thing.”
“Umm, yeah, that’s…great.” Connor smiled widely, Abby just smiling while watching the T.V.
Rex chirped happily and seemed to be rather smug for a lizard.
