everybody's got something to hide except me and my monkey

To say that the assortment of people at Water Canyon tonight was a motley crew is to insult spandex-wearing hair-metal bands everywhere. There were some good folks there, definitely. But then we had an unusually large contingent of the BMX-riding, trucker-hat wearing crowd. It's so adorable when they grunt monosyllabically.

It's a quick post tonight. Since I'll be leaving early for Riverside every day this week, my posts will be evening-bound. I've spent part of the night trying to decide what persona I'll adopt for the next five days. I do this to make things interesting for myself. It would be boring beyond words to go to a class among complete strangers and play it normal. So I can be Cynical Rob or Sarcastic Rob or Pseudo-Intellectual Rob or Serious Rob or Apathetic Rob or any one of a number of other variations on my normally sparkling personality. It might even be interesting to take on a different personality every day. I'm certainly open to suggestions.

I had lunch at Schag's house today and started my Humanities schooling. And I will be referring to it as Humanities from here on in. No more of this AP nonsense. The main reason why I'm taking on the extra work it'll require to teach this class, and to teach it the way Schag has done, is because I think the curriculum as it stands makes it the most important class at YVHS. I believe strongly in the breadth of material covered, and I know if any other teacher were to take it, they'd teach it as a simple AP class, and all that great philosophy and music and art and architecture would disappear. So Humanities it is, and rest assured that I'll be working my tail off to meet the standards Schag has maintained for the last fifteen years or so.

But that's boring to read about, isn't it? I could make fun of Bush or the Navy guy at the track tonight (a recent YVHS graduate, I might add) who could only manage two laps, but I think I'll save my energy so that tomorrow I can better grump about all the loser teachers at this AP conference. I'll be sure to take copious notes.
