Been away too long from the interwebzzzzzz DX It's been a long four-and-a-half days but I've survived! And there's been one too many misshaps and stuff that have put me in a rather sour mood for a while... but things are beginning to shape up now and I'm getting used to things here. *sigh*
First off, we had a sucky flight. We travelled in Arabian Airlines and the damn airline doesn't serve food =___= Of course, you'll have to pay five times the normal amount for food on the flight but it is so not worth it. Oh yeah, and my largest piece of luggage - a bigass suitcase - got lost somewhere in the middle of the Gulf region and has still not arrived. >[ Baggage claim has been trying to locate it, and I've been trying to locate it, but it's been more than a week already and I don't think I'll ever get my bag back :( It had my cute Periodic Table mug and my pencil holders and most of my new clothes... and that cursed study table >.>
I swear, it's the study table that did all this! The first time we went to buy the table, it didn't come in very good packing... plus it was one of the last pieces there. And then we went home and a few days before I left to Sri Lanka, dad opened it up and decided to repack it properly. That's when he found out that parts of the table were missing >.> So he had to go abck and get the parts back, and after we packed most of the smaller shelves into the suitcase and sent it on the flight, that particular sitcase never arrived in Sri Lanka >.> That, or somebody stole my bag >[
I didn't even have any underwear to put on when I got home D: Yeah... so I had to buy cheap underwear from the pavement just so I wouldn't have to go commando (is that term even applicable to females??)
And then we had to go and buy a whole new study table, a chair that cost over 1000 rupees >.> (JEEZ! Everything's so expensive here!!), a bed, and I still don't have a proper matress lol.
And then the house we were supposed to be staying in is still being built >.> So we had to make do with a humongous scary house upstairs and Dharshi and I occupy one room int he corner of it all. The house is so dark and the doors aren't even aligned properly, plus the windows don't lock, and there's a hornet's nest right n front of our room window DX And the toilet near our room stinks bad and everything that's flushed down comes back up form the bathing area. I know. EWWWWW!!! =___=
So mom and I cleaned up the other bathroom (some guy had left his shaving stuff and hair cream and girly shampoo that smells like watermelon, and also his really gross towel that probably used to be white, but it was dark brown by the time we got there D: ) and now we're using the tiny bathroom so all's good... for now...
Classes are loooooooooong =___= One lecture goes on for 3 hours with no breaks in between. We start at 9 and finish at 5. But I guess it's so hectic because the postgraduate courses are held only on weekends, so they pretty much have to rush things. But trying to listen to someone go on and on about bacteria for three hours straight when you're thinking about what you're going to have for lunch is a lost cause really... things go through one ear and come out the other.
There are lots of university dogs around here, and one black and white guy comes in to listen to our lectures everyday at exactly 9.15 am XD He first goes in and greets the professor, and then comes back and takes his seat in the middle of the class and listens to the whole thing ever so obediently. I bet that dog was either a professor in a previous birth, or a student who never graduated from Medical Microbiology ;D
The bathrooms are beyond horrible and you just have to hod it all in until you get home D: Which is pretty difficult for me because I drink a lot of water since I walk all the way to uni from home, and it's pretty hot here and the classrooms are not air-conditioned. The best bathrooms so far are in our building, but our lectures are held at the Botany building, which is ancient, and the bathrooms are crumbly as well... and the security guard at our building (PGIS) doesn't allow us to go upstairs to use the bathrooms because he thinks we're not students here or something =_____=''''
The first night we were alone at our apartment, we heard noises... like doors opening and windows banging and footsteps coming up the stairs... So Dharshi and I decided to investigate, and sine the nives are all in the kitchen, Dharshi took her scissors, and I led the way with my super-powerful torch. No-body. No intruders. All clear. We went back into our room and piled our suitcases against the door just in case when we heard the noises again. Holy shit right? So we pulled everything away and decided to go investigate once more. FFFF. Guess what the sounds were? .... yeah... some couple in the other apartment getting it onnnnn >[ JEEZ!
Second night at the apartment, we bought string hoppers form the shop nearby. We didn't really check whether they provided a curry withthe pack, but ffffff there wasn't any curryand we just had string hoppers and the dry hot stuff that goes with it. SOOOO what we did was pour instant soup onto the string hoppers and pretend it was a vegetable curry XD It was the best meal I've ever had so far though :| Seriously.
Yesterday classes finished at 12.00pm. Dharshi and I bought separate lunch packets and ate them ALL. We used to share one packet all these days but decided to go easy on ourselves a little and spent the extra amount and BOY did we realize how absolutely hungry we were >.>
LOL and we never got our timetable or ID cards until just recently. We had no clue what classes were held where and when and by who until we actually came to class and satdown and realized we were going to have to sit through three hours straight and then go on until 5 pm with no hopes of lunch >.> The university canteens are open only on weekdays and only in the mornings on Saturdays. Since we've got class Friday through Sunday, we get to go without lunch on two of the three days. DX We're so so SO unfortunate LOL!
Oh, and we got our ID cards today. And finally looked up the library. The library doesnt really have any books >.> So we're planning on getting membership to the Medical Library as well. That's an additional 2000 rupees...~
I went with my uncle to get my measurements for a lab coat (not allowed to go to class without it on Friday). And Dharshi and I are planning to go into town and explore a bit. We really badly need to get used to the bus routes *sigh*
LOL and I'm typing this out while at the Science-Faculty Computer Lab, and in Sri Lanka, when you enter a computer lab, you need to keep your stuff outside and take off your shoes. LOLOLOL!! I don't know why, but hey, it's the only air-conditioned room int he uilding, so I'm not complaining XD.
Need to go to the bank later today and get my debit card and stuff...
Eh... and it's almost 1.00pm now... time to try lunch at the canteen. (bless my poor stomach epithilieals!)
