I did this to cheer up
thehighwaywoman (and partially myself) after the emotional train wreck that is 3x16. Just a snippet, based partially on the boys' wonderful acting and Sandy's panel at LA Con where she said that Jared's greatest fear was losing someone.
Jensen was first in bed that night, exhausted from the day's shooting. He swallowed hard, throat sore from screaming through the death scene, body aching from the stunts. He was reaching for the glass of water on the bedside table when Jared emerged from the bathroom, crawled into bed and promptly wrapped himself around Jensen like an octopus with abandonment issues.
Normally Jensen wouldn't have any problems at all with being enveloped in a giant naked Jared-blanket. Except this time, he felt the fine tremors shuddering through Jared's body, the faster heartbeat, the soft gasps of breath like stifled sobs. Jensen put his hands over the huge ones clasped over his chest and pressed back slightly, trying to get even closer to steady Jared, take away whatever was making him shiver like he was stranded out in an icy lake. "Hey."
Jared buried his face in Jensen's neck, breathing deeply. "I never want to hear you scream like that. Ever again." A real sob broke through, a damp burst of warm air against Jensen's skin. "I can't lose you."
Jensen turned his head to look Jared in the eye, heart breaking at the devastated expression twisting that handsome face. "You're not going to," he said quietly but firmly. "And Sam hasn't lost Dean. Not forever." He brushed a light kiss over pale lips, tasting salt. "Death can't stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while."
Jared blinked, then snorted almost involuntarily while his lips twitched. "You did not just quote Princess Bride at me."
"Yeah, I did, Buttercup." Jensen smiled and kissed him again, lingering and soft. A promise of forever together.
