So, what next?!

It's been ten years..... or, alternately, 14 months.

I left because I was bored of LJ... and, perhaps, bored of the myself I let myself become.

And you know what? I blame the collective *you* in a way, and not perhaps in a fair way, but thereyago. It's not personal, but it is what it is.

Let me explain... I created this journal ( Read more... )

This.

Plus, I once thought there was nothing in the world worth hiding my true self from anyone for even a moment. And then I found something that was worth that sacrifice to me. Neither of those two ideological positions is better or worse or more or less evolved; they're just different.

I don't think the whole world does, either. And I'm not sure that I judge others all that harshly... that said, we both know your potential is very high. And we both know what a fucked up, neurotic wreck the nature of the beast can make you, especially when your legs are cut out from underneath you, and you're not allowed to shine ( ... )

Are we ever old enough to know better how to negotiate that? Was Bill Moyers or Dan Rather old enough, I wonder?

I don't know. Seems to me that people care, if there's exposure for that kind of reporting.

What's needed, I suspect, is some kind of collective site run by investigative journalists with a bit of moxie and the ability to promote their work and get it out there, ideally in multiple formats that can be shared and promoted through various news-oriented blogs, alt weeklies, syndication through radio such as contacting college stations and Pacifica radio, assuming that NPR stations are inaccessable, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc.

Really, it's a shame that Huffington Post has become a catch-all nowadays for news geared towards those on the left reality-based journalism... in part because they don't actually do any serious journalism themselves, but also because they're not really fact-based, and are prone to pushing an agenda and false, misleading, or sensationalistic headlines that oftentimes hurt the left, instead of actually informing people about complex issues and telling real stories ( ... )

I know you've done a few risky stories. "Killed for" though, I never really thought about, probably because at the time I was pretty damn concerned about those I knew who were over in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Killed for" is obviously a relative term. But the risk is certainly appreciated.
