Guess who came to visit Cornell University today (Sept 26, 2010) ?!
MARK RUFFALO!
Mark Ruffalo came to Cornell University today to speak out against hydrofracking in upstate New York. Many of you may be asking, "What in tarnations is FRACKING? and WHY in the WORLD would we care?"
According to FrackAction.com:
"Fracking is a commonly accepted term for hydro-fracturing, a process where water, sand and chemicals are injected into the earth at high pressure. The Aim of hydro-fracturing is to fracture rock formations deep underground in the hopes of liberating natural gas that would be otherwise inaccessible, and to bring it to the surface."
So what's the problem? There has been over a thousand reports of water contamination in areas where drilling is taking place, and the EPA has discovered a range of contaminants in drinking water including arsenic, copper, vanadium and methane gas.

vicariousfacade and I were very excited that he was visiting our school in the middle of nowhere. He was extremely passionate about the subject because he lives in upstate New York with his family. He said he wanted to let people know the dangers of fracking largely because he wants to protect his kids (Aww).
Anyway, afterward, he let us take pictures with him and he thought our ONTD sign was "awesome!" (even though he had no idea what it was, but we explained...while other Cornellians stared at us like we were idiots.)
We were very excited to meet him!
Here's a really long video of him speaking if you're interested...
