A sudden flurry of footsteps startles Alphonse. He can hear May calling his name, and turns to greet her. She grasps his hands, automatically. "Alphonse! It's time to eat, where have you been? You're still getting your strength back!"
It's been more difficult than expected, having his body back. He stayed out in the sun too long last week: Edward and May took turns scolding him.
His heartbeat is impossibly loud. There is a scar on his left knee from falling off a fence. It seems incredibly, unbearably important to keep May’s hands in his own.
"Okay," he says. "Okay."
