This time with another movie review, fresh out the...theater? It's shorter and kept spoiler free, since it's just my opinions.
Alright, the movie this time is How to Train Your Dragon. I finally found someone else who hadn't seen it yet.
I know it's kinda old, but if it's still in theaters this long, it's gotta be worth something, right? It can't be as bad and disappointing as the last movie I saw.
And you know? I was right.
I missed a tiny part of the intro, since I entered the theater a few minutes late. But it seemed like it wasn't much, since it didn't ruin the whole thing for me one bit.
The overall storyline, I'll bluntly say that it's really nothing new. I've seen several movies with more or less the same series of events. The only difference between those movies are really the packaging. This time, the package is the world of Vikings where dragons and humans inhabit the same area with amusing, though not really original in essence (IMO), characters with humorous situations and not too much drama (just the way I like it). You can also expect some touching moments that makes you go 'aww..'. At least, I did a couple of times.
The visuals are great. Hey, it's Dreamworks we're talkin' about. Even if you find the storyline crappy, at least you got beautiful visuals to compensate. Well, sometimes eye candy helps..didn't do much for me when I watched Avatar, though. But in this one, I feel like it just compliments the whole thing. You can be sure they'll be able to capture every emotion of the character, see every stone hurled by catapults or every single spark flying off of Viking axes, every single leaf on a tree in a whole forest, plus keep you at the edge of your seat. Hm..maybe I'll make being able to work there a target for a future job. (Wishful thinking there..)
I'm not much of a sound person. But as far as effects goes, it's pretty much flawless. Maybe since I was watching it at the theater, I jumped a few times in my seat. Once again, you've got an experienced team here. No need to worry.
So was it worth seeing it at the theater? For me, yes. It was just a nice thing to have after seeing the movie in my previous entry. Call me soft for kiddy stuff, but it wasn't disappointing. Heck, I'll take animated cartoon characters over real people with bad acting anytime. The storyline, like I said, is nothing new. But at least it didn't have the cheesiness that I felt was really apparent in the other movie I wrote about. Overall, touching, funny, and worth the time to watch it.
