Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski went down to Mar-a-Lago to "kiss the ring" (or was it the ass?) of President-Elect Donald J. Trump on Friday, November 15th, 2024.
In doing so, they were demonstrating "willful compliance" with an incoming dictator who will destroy our democracy. This is how dictatorships gets established: through intimidation of opponents, and forcing "willful compliance" by opponents ahead of time.
Joe and Mika spent the years 2015 through most of 2024 telling everyone what a vile, despicable character Trump is, and how dangerous he is to democracy and the rule of law in this country.
Now that they are afraid of retribution from the incoming President, who has threatened to shut down news channels he does not like, and throw journalists in jail, they have met with him. The pitiful excuse they offered---namely, that it would "better serve their viewers" to reestablish communication with the Orange Idiot after not meeting with him for seven years---fools no one. They should be ashamed of themselves for offering us this pap. It is an explanation that does not wash.
They have let down, and greatly angered, "Morning Joe's" loyal viewing base. They have also forever destroyed their independence and integrity. If they now fail to cover the Trumpian issues of the day properly, or forcefully, all of us who were once loyal to them will wonder if they have struck a deal with him, or been muzzled. And this will all be THEIR OWN FAULT.
Shame on you, shame on you, shame on you.
I support legal commentator Lisa Rubin's call for a boycott of "Morning Joe." You don't have to watch this show anymore. Joe and Mika have lost our trust, and it is their own fault. Rarely, if ever, have I seen more craven and ill-advised behavior.
What is the next step? Will Joe and Mika now come out and support this would-be dictator like Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy and Lindsey Graham did after they "flipped?" Or will they just tone down the criticism and turn a blind eye to many of his actions, as some kind of quid pro quo (to avoid having the FCC pull MSNBC's license, for example)?
Shame on you, Joe and Mika, shame on you: Eternal Shame. END
