New regime.

So, I have decided that in an effort to get fit before going to Japan next year, some lifestyle changes are in order. Before Christmas Break I was pretty good about going to the gym a few times a week in the evenings, but holidays always throw everything off. And even before then, it took so much motivation to even get down there 2 or 3 times a week because I was always so tired after work or school (or both, depending on the day). And then my gym buddy, Tricia, got a membership at the Y and started going in the mornings. So I thought to myself, why can't I do that?

But the thought of getting up early to go to the gym made me squeamish. I am not a morning person. Anybody who knows me knows that. I love to sleep. But really? Let's weigh the facts.
Fact #1: I want to be healthier and more active, and lose more weight.
Fact #2: I am planning a trip that will (hopefully) involve climbing a mountain, and I want to enjoy the experience (and not die).
Fact #3: There is a fully operational gym in the building where I live, a mere 1 floor below my apartment. It opens at 6 a.m.

So really? all I need to do is roll out of bed, fall into some sweats, and stumble down one flight of stairs to the treadmill. I have no excuse. Why couldn't I just get up an hour earlier every day?

So call it a New Year's resolution that I got a late start on. But the result is that every day last week, monday to friday, I went to the gym and worked out for at least half an hour. This week, I went Sunday, Monday, and today. I am not setting it in stone that I MUST get up early to do this, but I am trying to. Some days I have a lot of free time in the afternoon, so I will go then instead. But the point is that I am going. Even doing this for one week is a huge achievement for me. They say it takes 3 weeks to change one's habits; well, I am halfway there.
