Today I have a lot of hope for the U.S.A.
I really, truly hope that Barack Obama lives up to the hype. He has inspired so many around the world to hope that the United States can be a force for positivity. These are exciting times in which to live!
What happens in the States usually has a great affect on what happens in Canada. If this election does nothing else for my fair nation, I really, really, REALLY hope that it inspires leaders who are unafraid to put something new and different on the table, and also that it inspires Canadians to get out and VOTE. We have just witnessed our lowest voter turnout EVER because we have lapsed into apathy and political complacency. We have been duped into believing that our voice does not count. No vote is a wasted vote! If we learn anything from the States through this election, it should be that democracy only succeeds when people exercise their right to partake in that democracy.
Congratulations, Barack Obama, you are an inspiration, and we have high hopes for you. John McCain, you are a paragon of class and humility, and we can all clearly see how much you love your country - congratulations on a well-fought and graciously finished race.
Now here's hoping that all of this "Obama = impending apocalypse and downfall of the free world" nonsense fades away soon.
