i went the seasonal part time job route again this year. kohl's was such a bad experience last year and so was the gap years prior. this time i felt i HAD to do it, financially. this time i chose macy's and so far it seems to have been a very good choice.
the original opening was for 10-hrs per week and that's a truly reasonable amount, i think, for someone who does 40 hours elsewhere. as of today i've had just an orientation and then one working day, but i can already tell that this is a better environment for me than the previous places. i wanted a job that would require little customer interaction and some fairly mundane work -- kind of mind-wandering able. the woman who interviewed me totally got where i was coming from. she told me that the jobs i'd be involved with might be considered monotonous by some but that sounded refreshing to me.
my first true work day was last sunday and i believe i caught on fairly quickly with the price change process. to be honest, the layout of the store confused me more than anything so i ended up following one person or another when it was break time and going to get my purse at the end. i still don't remember quite where i returned my pricing equipment or where the break room actually was but i suppose i'll get it eventually.
dress code is fairly easy and comfortable and water is allowed on the floor. right now it's a win-win. it's something fairly enjoyable and the extra bit of money coming in certainly helps.
having another open door now is a good thing.
