yeah, I laugh at myself all the time for being such a francophile. hee hee.
I wish the people I knew in Paris were still there. They've moved to other parts of the country or back home. Anyway, I would ask store clerks questions like, "where are the good record stores?" etc. and I found them to be extremely helpful. I've always thought that if I went back, I'd try to lookup Bertrand Bergalat or Kahimi Karie or someone who works in the Tricatel Records office.
There are also a lot of places like the Hotel Costes, Buddah Bar and Favela Chic. I left them out because they remind me too much of an Ian Schrager hotel, which I'm not too fond of.
Berlin: I think Nylon Magazine did a whole issue on Berlin about a year ago, complete with a pullout poster map of the city by Eboy! Oh, in London of course, you must go to the Rough Trade record shop.
Also, I'm sure you've got this covered, but I've found the Time Out travel guides to be the best and most culturally savvy. And London and Paris both have a weekly published Time Out guide just like NYC.
I wonder if overseas travel prices are cheap because Americans aren't traveling abroad quite as much? Hmmm. Maybe I should plan a trip! I'm a bit jealous.
Work is crazy busy right now, but I guess that's good. I don't even have time to read anymore. My husband's been reading the Calvin Tompkins bio of Duchamp and reports that Duchamp wasn't a big reader. Funnily enough, that esauged my guilt a wee bit.
I remember that Nylon issue. I laughed at it at the time, but maybe I ought to try and find a copy in the box under my bed or at a friend's house.
I purchased my tickets for $630 roundtrip (JFK to Heathrow). I don't know how that compares to other times of year, but people seem to think it is not a bad deal.
