Today was my first foray into selling my jewelery to complete strangers. I made Jason come along with me to the the Fremont Market. When we got there at 8:50 I almost thought we weren't going to get a table. The line in front of us was really long and they give the spaces to the Members of the Market first. That makes sense. Otherwise, why offer memberships? The girl next to us told us that she had gotten there at 7:15 to get a space and she still didn't have one yet. I told Jason that we could just go home and try again in a week and arrive earlier.
But, apparently showing up late gave us an advantage in that we didn't get discouraged and leave. I only wanted a table top and I got the absolutely last spot available. I was either the first place people walked by or the last one they circled near, depending on how you entered the market. We were located right in front of the entrance to the Circus, as well.
I think I did well, I made back my table fee and then another $100. I also got commissioned to do a piece. Since this was my first time and I didn't have displays, a reputation or anything like that. I'm very happy with my success. Jason bought me a mirror. Right before the market shut down I bought myself a frame with wire mesh and a stand. It will definitely come in handy next time. Oh yes, and next time, I also want a booth with a canopy. I don't mind so much getting sunburned after 7 hours in the sun, but I can't handle Jason being sunburned.
I don't know yet if this is something I want to do every weekend, but maybe once a month or so wouldn't be bad. Now, it's time to make more jewelry!
