As Patrick opened his eyes, a blurry white ceiling came into view. He groaned and blinked trying to focus on his surroundings. He was lying in a weirdly familiar hospital bed. As he looked around he searched through his memory to find the reason he was in here in the first place, and then suddenly it all came back to him. He tried to sit up but made it halfway before crying in out in pain. He fell back onto the pillow and gasping in pain. The room spinned as he felt a wave of nausea hit him and he struggled to breathe, he fell back onto the pillow and gasped. He heard the door open and slam shut made no move to acknowledge it and then there was the sound of high heels hitting the polished floor.
“I saw you were awake,” Cristina said leaning over him frowning, “how do you feel?”
Patrick shook his head weakly and tried to get up but Cristina pushed him back down.
“Don’t get up,” she said firmly turning around to check an iv drip feeding into his arm.
“What’s that?” he muttered weakly closing his eyes.
She ignored him and started to leave.
“Cristina,” he muttered and opened his eyes staring at her frozen back, “Why are you doing this?”
“I think you know,” she said before softly closing the door behind her.
He did know, he realized then, all those people from before must have been the same as him. He has the same fate and he couldn’t do anything about it. He closed his eyes feeling the drugs take over, before he passed out one thought circled his mind. Why me?
Matt arrived at Gerard’s hideout, with Brian and Zacky, at approximately nine o’clock. It used to be a college but it became disused when the dandies took over. Normal citizens were either forced to surrender and become vampire fledglings or become servants to the dandies, Gerard didn’t like the original name so he changed it to the Umbrella Academy, based off a graphic novel he wrote. This was artistically painted to a wooden sigh on the tall gates. Matt looked up the thick and heavily decorated Iron.
The school was obviously posh but clearly had been left untamed by time. Matt stepped back and took a run up before leaping gracefully over the gate, without an impact. Brian and Zacky landed behind him equally as silently, and they started up the wearing paved path that winded up a slightly steep hill. There were trees and plants littered on both edges and the path that twisted and turned for about a mile and a half before they came to a clearing where the entrance to the Umbrella Academy was. There were five wide, light grey stone steps leading up to a porch with two dirty white columns at the base and to the sides of the steps. On the porch was a big, thick wooden door with massive locks. Matt walked up to it and was about to knock when Brian held out his arm to stop him.
“You sure you want to go through with this?” he asked, concerned.
Matt felt a pang of annoyance and averted his eyes, “Yeah. Sure,” he grunted.
Brian sighed, “nothing will have changed, Matt, he’s still your ex. You can’t just hope he’ll fall in love with you again.”
“I don’t!” Matt snapped, “He just needs my help. Let’s just go in, Okay?”
Brian frowned, unconvinced, but reluctantly dropped the subject, not without sharing a worried glance with Zacky.
Matt ignored them and raised a fist to knock on the door but the door burst open before he could.
“Matt!”
“Frank!” Matt grinned as he embraced the younger man, “It’s been too long! I missed you,” and he wasn’t lying Matt really had missed Frank.
“I missed you too, Mattie,” he said and then turned to Zacky and Brian, “Hey, Zacky, hey Brian!”
“Hey, Frankie,” they said together and pulled them into tight hugs, then Frank led all of them into a long and dusty hall.
“Jeez, it seriously has been too long,” Matt said running his hand over the stair banister his hand collecting a large amount of dust.
“Yeah, I agree,” someone said from behind him. Matt turned round to find Gerard standing in the doorway of the living room on the left side of the hall. “Sorry ‘bout the dust, we only just moved here. Haven’t had a chance to clean,” He walked over to Matt and pulled him into a tight and meaningful hug, “Far Too long, It’s been far too long.”
Once they had got reacquainted, they gathered around the for lack of a better name a conference table. It was located in a room in the basement of the house which was accessed by a very well disguised door and a narrow spiral staircase. About seven or eight prison cells lined the walls which Ray told them that Ryland, Gabe, Travis and him had made adapted disused classrooms by removing the original, large wooden doors and placing thick, steel ones in their place with narrow, slits near the top and heavy bolts so that even a vampire couldn’t escape. As the were passing the fourth or fifth one, Matt could have sworn he saw a pair of dark, brown eyes gazing curiously out at him through one of the slits.
Seated around the table was a group of several vampires, humans and werewolves alike from different clans and areas. People Matt had never met or heard of before like, Travis Clark Matt McGinley, Andy Hurley, People from Gerard’s clan like his younger brother Mikey and Ray Toro, Frank Iero and Bob Bryar, The infamous Cobra Clan of Gabe Saporta, Victoria Asher, Nate Novarro, Alex Suarez and some random people like Greta Salpeter, Eric Roberts and Danny Duncan. Matt was surprised at the amount of people Gerard had been able to call in at such short notice. Gerard motioned Matt to sit in between him and a vampire from the infamous Cobra clan called Ryland Blackington, who was very talkative and a very nice guy. The table itself was a huge rectangle with several empty spots near the end.
“Guys!” Gerard stood up and yelled, “Hey everybody! Shut the fuck up!”
People stopped talking instantly when Gerard talked and Matt knew that they respected him.
“We have a problem-” Gerard began but Andy interrupted with a very sarcastic, “Well done.”
Well maybe everyone else.
“Shut up Andy,” Gerard snapped, glaring at the other vampire, “As I said we have a problem. The dandies have taken over most of the city, though it’s hard to say how bad the situation is I think we can say for certain that we need to do something.”
“Is this about what happened to Patrick?” Travis (Clark) interjected.
“Stump?” Matt added frowning, he had only met the hunter a couple of times and only briefly. Generally when he went to the hunter’s base it was to negotiate with Pete. He had like him though, he had smiled shyly at him and asked him about his tattoos, he was hard not to like.
“Yeah,” Gerard glanced at Matt quickly before turning to Travis, “and yes, this is about what happened to Patrick.”
“Well what did?” Ryland asked, frowning, “All I know Is what Gabe told me, that Pete left and now both of the warm bodies are missing.”
Andy growled, “Those ‘warm-bodies are my friends.”
“Is that how you treat friends?” Ryland’s said fiercely standing up to his full height, “Abandoning them with only Pete for protection? That don’t seem very friendly to me.”
Andy stared at him for a few seconds in furious shock, “I c-can’t believe this, Is this what you all have been thinking? Fuck this, fuck you all,” He said his voice cracking slightly, “Fuck, I can’t fucking believe this. I- fuck.”
He stood up and left Matt thought he heard a sob before the door slammed shut. Ryland had an unreadable expression on his face, he stood staring at the closed door for a few more seconds before he simply looked around the room before sitting back down and saying with the slightest shake to his voice, “Right let’s get on with it, shall we?”
Gerard sighed, “Sure,” he seemed unfazed by the sudden out burst but Matt knew him better than that, “Nate, Any sighting of Beckett?”
“Nope,” Nate says, non apologetically, “Sorry, Boss. We’ve been checking all round town especially his popular hunting grounds. We didn’t see him once. He seems to be staying out of the fights. ”
Gerard sighed, placing his head in his hands, “But why? I don’t understand any of this. This all is connected but how? We’re getting nowhere.”
He sounded so sad and desperate compared to the calm and collected person he’d been not minutes ago, that Matt couldn’t help but put his arm round his shoulders, “Hey you got Pete back, no? And we’re here now, we’ll help.”
Gerard looked up at him, “but-”
“No buts,” Matt said, more confident than he’d felt all day, “It will be okay. It has to be. We’ll call in reinforcements, start questioning people. Someone in this god forsaken city has to know something.”
Gerard smiled gratefully at him and laid his head on Matt’s shoulder. Matt could see people getting awkward, “Meeting over, I guess?”
Gerard nodded, “Stick around, though, we have plenty of empty rooms. Matt and I will brainstorm and get back to you.”
People got up and started to leave and Gerard looked Matt in the eyes and whispered so nobody else could hear, “thank you.”
Matt smiled warmly and pulled him into a powerful embrace. Once everyone had left Gerard briefly looked around and then kissed Matt gently, then without a word he left the room leaving poor Matt alone and confused in the “conference” room.
William leant back from the computer screen. The high definition picture showed Matt sitting motionless at the table staring after Gerard with a mixed expression, though William couldn’t quite put his finger on it. William frowned thoughtfully, “Hmm, I wonder what went on there, they obliviously have history. Adam,” he said sharply turning to his accomplice, “I want you to find out what happened.”
Sisky laughed nervously behind him, stealing glances at the door while he thought William, wasn’t looking, “W-why?”
William turned to him incredulously, “Are you fucking serious? I could use it to my advantage. Do you know what kind of leverage information like that could achieve? Stupid fuck.”
“I’m sorry sir, won’t happen again sir,” Adam said staring at his feet, “If I may, you should probably leave soon sir. Someone will most likely be here soon to check up on me.”
William smirked looking Adam up a down but got up to leave, though before he reached the door he stopped to kiss up Adam’s neck and jaw line. When Adam visibly started to shake William chuckled softly, “See you soon, sugar.”
Then he left closing the door softly behind him. Though he kept a cool exterior, William Beckett was bursting with curiosity about Matt and Gerard situation. He had a contact that could look into the history. He just told Adam to look to keep him busy. He chuckled to himself, and spun on the spot disappearing into thin air. This was too easy.
