029. Sea, Sungmin/Siwon The sun was cool on their faces, the sand warm beneath their skin, and the sea cool against their feet, washing over them with the return of every small wave. Above them, blue sky reflected against the sea, and seagulls crooned to one another, flying about in broad circles before diving towards cool water to scoop up small loads of fish.
Lee Sungmin lay with his head pillowed against Choi Siwon’s stomach, content in the quiet of late afternoon, content in the silence of Siwon’s presence. His soft brown eyes were closed against the brightness of the sun, his bowed mouth quirked at the corners in the smallest of smiles, and he hummed softly to himself as he lazed about in a secluded area of a public beach, one hand’s fingers tangled with one of Siwon’s, the other against his own bare stomach.
“I wish it could always be like this…” he said quietly after a few moments, opening his eyes and rolling onto his stomach, untangling his fingers from Siwon’s and resting both arms on Siwon’s stomach. “I wish we didn’t have to hide from the world, and that we could go to the beach without disguises, and that we didn’t have to hope and pray that we wouldn’t be recognized when we did take off our disguises…” he said on a soft sigh, smile turning wistful as he laid his cheek on his crossed arms, head turned towards the sparkling sea, brown hair flopping.
He watched as someone’s dog cantered into the sea from the other side of a large rock outcropping, and watched as a little boy ran in after him, splashing and giggling just loud enough for Sungmin to hear. He laughed softly to himself, remembering the days when he’d been free to do the same thing.
Now he was a celebrity, and that undisturbed freedom had been taken from him.
A hand settled onto his head and fingers gently carted through it, an almost slow massage against his scalp. He sighed again and allowed his eyes to slip closed, unmindful of the people around them, glad to be sheltered between the two rock outcroppings that left them undisturbed.
Then he rolled his neck to stare at Siwon’s soft features, almost bronze with the sun beating down upon him, and smiled again, reaching out with one hand to gently stroke a line down his cheek.
“I love you, you know that?” he said quietly, receiving a smile in return, “and one day, I’ll make sure the whole world knows it too…”
He closed his eyes again, and Siwon resumed carting his fingers through his hair, his silent compliance the best answer Sungmin could ask for.
He drifted, the sound of the ocean music to his ears, the calls of the birds anything but a disturbance, and as he fell asleep, he thought he heard Siwon’s quiet voice.
“I won’t let anything hurt you…”
