Ever have one of those days where you have the need to hit ppl and cry? Had that today. Don't really know why but I did. I think part of it is pms.
I know part of it is spillover from yesterday.
In Strategic Business class we are doing this thing called the Capsim simulation. The class divided itself into 4 companies and there are 2 computer companies. Each group has a sensor business to turn around. You have 8 rounds to do it in. 1 round = 1 year. We have a week to make decisions for a round. Our group, Digby, has become the dominant group in the class. We're on round 5 and we've got 30% of the market and made $41 million. It's been interesting. The next group closest to us was one who had made a few huge blunders in the first round and have recovered really well. The company in 3rd right now is a computer company. Go figure.
Anyway, in this round we shot off an email to our teacher asking for advice on our financial decisions. And on Wed. Dr. Juma sent an email back with a few suggestions on our financing and TQM which is total quality managment. She also said one of us could come pick up the example she had for financing our TQM since you can't really send it through an email.
So while Wed. was my day off I figured "Hey, Trang lives at the college. She can easily take 10 minutes to go to Dr. Juma's office and pick that up." It takes me 20 minutes both ways and then I'd probably spend 10 minutes at least talking to Dr. Juma about it. And then I'd go home and at 630pm I'd have to drive back for our group meeting and that's just a pain in the ass. So I stayed home.
Logical right? That's what I figured.
So I go to the college that night and the first person I see from my group is Brenda. "Did you see the email?"
"No, I haven't been home. What does it say?" So I show her and tell her my logic. "Yeah. I get that."
So I set up my netbook and we both go back to scarfing our dinners down.
So when Trang gets there I look up and ask her. "Did you go get Dr. Juma's suggestions?"
"No, I read the email but I didn't read all of it. Don't hate me!"
Of course you didn't, I think. The entire email was two short paragraphs and of course it would be too long for you to read. Oh wait, except you knew what I was talking about so you must have finished the email. Whatever. "Ooook."
"You don't hate me do you?"
Bridge of the nose pinch. "I really don't care." And then I go on to explain to Brenda what I've done.
"I bet everbody expected me to go get it."
No shit. REally? YOU LIVE HERE!!
"I don't think Dr. Juma is still in her office but I sent her an email."
Great. And of course she proceeds to ask stuff about the email. "What does Dr. Juma mean by investing 350 in TQM?"
"Oh, I thought she forgot a 0 and meant 3500," I replied shoving a french fry in my mouth. Of course if you'd gone to get the paper she had for us we'd fucking know wouldn't we?
In any case, the rest of our group showed up and we decided on stuff and it turned out that Dr. Juma was in her office. So we sent the only guy in the group, Chuck, to go fetch the paper.
So valuable lesson learned: Next time I'll got waste the gas and the time and go fetch any papers my self.
It's similar to the lesson I learned at wally world: If you help another associate don't expect help in return.
At least that's how it seems to go at my wallhell.
So there's another part of this Capsim thing which is a Challenge competition. You do the same thing as the simulation but in 8 days. And if you pass those 8 days then there are the finals which is the same thing except in the space of 8 hours.
We can get extra credit if we register and make it through the 8 day competition. You can register as a single person up to a group of 5. While I'm willing to team up with Leanne and Brenda who are willing to do the work, I'm not really wanting to team up with Chuck and Trang. Leanne and I tend to do the calculations for product forecasting and other stuff. Brenda is willing to pick up a calculator or the paperwork and understand what's going on. The other two just seem to show up and give their opinions and that's pretty much it.
I'm sure they're smart since this is a senior level class. I like them both but I'm just not wanting to do all the work. I get that they've got a lot of classes but still...
In any case, I talked to Leanne and she feels the same way. Plus, with the time commitment the competition would be easier to do with a smaller group and we could do a lot of it over email, IM, or phone instead of having to meet all 8 days. So I think we'll talk to Brenda and decide on Monday.
Other than that, I've liked the class and the simulation better than I expected.
In other news:
Have fallen in love with the Disney cartoon Phineas and Ferb. They are so adorkable!!!!
Also got one of those Keurig coffee makers. Still hate drinking coffee but it does hot chocolate!
I feel better.
