Maybe Appalachian wasn't the right school for me. In my 2 years here so far I have collected so much venom for a number of things since starting here. There is an extremely long list, but at the present environmentalist hippies top the list. Here's why:
I hate the environment. Nature is a whore. I love progress. These so-called intellectuals will be the first to bitch about the loss of jobs under Bush but won't hesitate to call for tougher environmental restrictions and EPA regulations (if they've even heard of the EPA) when they don't really realize the consequences. They backed the blasted Kyoto Treaty which would have cost America millions of jobs. There is a price for protecting the environment and that price is progress and there's no reason to slow the capitalist machine in order to save some trees and a wolf. Whenever I propose, in a joking/serious manner, the idea of bulldozing the rainforest, the first thing these naive people say to me is "what about oxygen?" Do some fucking research or did you smoke your knowledge from high school away? What covers 71% of this planet? Water. What is commonly found in water? Algae What process does Algae go through every day? Photosynthesis. What is produced in photosynthesis? Oxygen. Ok now that we've got intro to earth science out of the way let's move on.
"The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much."
Just thought I'd throw that quote in there from Wall Street just because I like it.
Anyway, my friends and I are so disgusted by the way these dirt lovers act that we have tossed around the idea of reverse eco-terrorism. It's mostly jest, but I would love to watch a hippy's face as I dumped motor oil into a stream, or me and a few friends and some chainsaws began to clear cut away some trees. They scream indignation at huge corporations constantly, but where are they getting their high priced out door gear from? I guarantee not some mom and pop store. I don't know who runs those companies but I really hope it's some rich, fat, white, male just laughing his ass off as these idiots line his pockets with their parents money so they can be one with the Earth.
There are a few things I do that people might misconstrue as being enviornentally friendly, some of those things include turning off my lights when i leave a room and driving a small, 4 cylinder car. But see the green of leaves is not what's on my mind when I do that, it's another type of green: money. If it didn't affect my wallet, I would leave all my lights and appliances on and even run a high voltage Tesla Coil in my living room, just to waste resources. I would also encourage people to drive Hummers and SUVs as much as possible just to pump more CO into the atmosphere, but unfortunately the fact that people drive those so much is a reason why we have such ridiculous gas prices today.
Well that's all I really have to say but I'll leave everyone with a thought: Support clear cutting and strip mining.
