I'm back! (Plus Jazaaboo and commissions!)

I guess this is the part where I explain my absence, huh?

It's been a wreck where I am. Namely Mom is at the worst of her hypo-manic stage again (and anyone who knows me understands that I do not use that word lightly) and it's been draining the hell out of me and given me lots of unhinged stress. I may have to move into Dad's office for real this time, but as long as Mom leaves me alone and never talks to me, I can gain some peace of mind. There's also been confusion involving my birth control meds, but I saw my gynocologist for that, so no worries.

Good things that kept me sane included Jimmy's 22nd birthday back on May 17th! Dad even got him a small present~ (We got him several WW2 books, including a memoir of the last Valkyrie) Jimmy and his mom and I ate at a glorious Italian restaurant, and its cheese pizza is absolutely amazing. The food was rich so we got stuffed right away and had to ask for leftover boxes. Then Jimmy and I cuddled at his house and we played Mario Party 3 in his honor before I went home.

Another thing I got to look forward to was art commissions. If Mom gets to go on her giant online shopping sprees, why can't I get myself something nice for a change? Both of them involve characters from my novel... and dear lord, I miss my novel and I want to start working on it again.

jazaaboo is an animator who uses her skills for a charites such as the speedgamers. You know that Pokemon video that I showed you several entries back? Yep, she made that. Unfortunately, she recently had to go to the hospital for emergency surgery, and a single night's stay costs $7000. That's American Health Care for ya. :/

Forwarding and spreading the word is fine and all, but I dunno. I felt like I had to do something. And $15 for a single colored sketch is easy. So I asked her to draw one of my main supporting characters: "Jelly Jane."

The novel itself is about toys who come to life in a museum, though it's a deconstruction of the "Living Toys" tale. It can be very dark as well as wacky, taking its inspiration from Nightmare Fuel in animated children's movies (from Disney and Bluth to more obscure fare such as Sanrio films) and Deranged Animation. (Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure, Pink Floyd's The Wall) In short, not for children, but intended to be very nostalgic.

Jelly Jane is one of the main supporting characters. She's confident, friendly, outspoken, might have a short temper, and above all? Adventurous. She's first introduced in the "Candy Land"-esque section of the museum, and as her name would suggest, she's based off sweets and desserts. She's round, lime-green and gelatinous with a yellow "lemon drop" inside to serve as her "solid" body. She has black dot eyes and a red (pink?) triangle mouth. She wears bright red boxing gloves and rubber boots, but her limbs are so stubby you can only see her hands and feet. She's got two gumdrops on her head that serve as "horns." Her main method of attack (as well as her appeal as a toy) is that she can suck in her body parts and become one green bouncing ball, letting her ricochet off walls and foes, sometimes sticking out a fist or boot for the final blow.

Before being donated to the museum, Jane was bought by a collector, but never played with or taken out of her plastic case. (Alternatively, she lived in a toy shop and was never sold) Thus she learned that she used to be part of a franchise, which happened to have spawned its own television show. Thus Jane would spend her "childhood" watching said show, starring "her" as a pirate captain running an airship in search of treasure and racing for the legendary "Cloudbuster" before her rival/main villain gets his dirty hands on it. Eventually it was cancelled after two seasons with no conclusion. Years later, Jelly Jane winds up at the museum with only scattered memories of the show, which no one else seems to have known existed no matter who she asks. Could she have been dreaming it up, or...?

Jaz loved my story setting and character. ;; And she made Jane look better than I've ever imagined. *-* I'm just seriously touched by this and I cannot thank her enough.

You can commission Jaz here. Her kindness is as great as her art and she deserves all the donations she can get. ;; You can even request a custom animation cell! :o
