Raggedy Ann meets Madoka (Or: Puri needs proper sleep)

So I jokingly think, "lol what if Kyubey from Madoka met Raggedy Ann? She'd just tell him she has everything she wants already." Not to mention in the books she's got a Wishing Pebble sewn in her body. Who needs a contract when you've got a Wishing Pebble? Then since Raggedy Ann doesn't have a Wishing Pebble in my novel, a dark thought occurred to me.

What if Raggedy Ann's candy heart was her Soul Gem?

The candy heart is constantly referenced in the Raggedy Ann books as the power of her happiness and generosity, making it seem like a magical object. What if Raggedy Ann's wish was to help people through kindness and friendship? In the books, she and Andy never feel physical pain, due to the fact they're dolls stuffed with nice, clean cotton. But what if it's also because Ann is a lich? She would keep her Soul Gem/candy heart sewn and cushioned in her body so it wouldn't shatter. Whenever she seems to be in danger of say, being made into a stew by a goblin, the problem is her "invincible" candy heart getting lost, not necessarily from being cooked alive. Does that mean Raggedy Ann fights witches? She certainly doesn't need to, since her "magic" comes from being kind to others, which in turn makes her happy, so her Soul Gem would be the slowest to "corrupt." The only witches we see in the books are the traditional pointy-hat-and-broomstick kind, and based off the ones I read so far, they either A. Secretly beautiful fairies in disguise. B. Originally young women to begin with. Hmm...

So what happens to Raggedy Ann when she becomes a witch? What form would she take? In my novel, my main villain Dr. Medlock uses the candy heart to ultimately bring to life a Giygas-and-Greedy-lovechild known as Moloch. It's the wailing and selfish opposite of Raggedy Ann; always having an appetite for a sacrifice and never being satisfied no matter how much love and sympathy it gains from its creator.

That said... what if the Greedy from the movie was actually a witch*? What if the entire Big Lipped Alligator Sequence in the taffy pit was just that, taking place inside a witch's barrier?

That would explain a hell of a lot of weird things that come in the movie. Like why the hell no one knows the Captain existed (and the gigantic flood from the snowglobe after he broke loose) or why they didn't try to stop him after kidnapping Babette. Loony Land is one big Witch Barrier (including the checkered room where everyone speaks in sound effects) with the inflating king as the witch and the Loony Knight as the witch's familiar. The Camel's hallucinations? All caused by the Witch's Kiss. Gazooks the Sea Monster = Babette as a witch? (Babette: "I want to go to Paris!" Kyubey: "Are you sure you want to use your wish for that? You're about to become something bigger than yourself. When you become a magical girl, you can go anywhere in the world you want.") The Last Laugh = Walpurgis Night?

*This is assuming boys can also take contracts, for clarity's sake. Now I'm getting images of Movie!Andy making a dumb wish with Kyubey while frozen from the starch (wishing to be the strongest, toughest toy, and later discovering what he really wanted was to be noticed and cared about) and his Soul Gem becoming the paper daisy Ann gave him, which is another reason he always kept it with him. Later, everyone LEARNS THE TRUTH and becomes horrified. Of course, Andy hits BSOD when he notices how much he's fucked up. After Babette breaks down from realizing her selfish ways and becomes a witch (our heroes try to stop and warn her, but they're too late), Andy notices his Soul Gem is almost completely corrupted. Rather than turn into a witch himself, Andy begs Ann to break his Soul Gem so he could lend her power (assuming there's a way for the Soul Gem to turn into a Grief Seed before he fully "transforms") and she would be able to stand a chance against Walpurgis. Ann makes a wish to break everyone's contracts and return their lives to normal, which leads to retcon and everyone is alive and amnesiac (but wiser...) and they all live happily ever after.

Okay, that was stupid. I'll stop rambling now. :P All this time I could've spent writing my actual novel. Woes.
