Day 6: Favorite puzzle game

I love puzzle games. Especially the ones where you match up three or more like in Bejewled or Chuzzle. But Wario's Woods is my favorite of the bunch and I am its self-declared champ. Blame Animal Crossing on Gamecube for being an enabler with the NES version. :P I later bought the SNES version too and I was surprised how different the two were. :o But I'll get to that in a bit.
You play Toad. Wario is up to his old tricks, driving the forest creatures insane. What do you do? Blow shit up with strategy. The screen is filled with cute monsters, and you need to match bombs with two of them of the same color--vertical, horizonal, or diagonal--in order to make them disappear. If you blow up five or more (I think), a colored diamond will appear, and when you blow that up, all the monsters of the color of the diamond will disappear. Surely there's got to be quirks to keep the going interesting, right? There's a timer on the upper right corner of the screen. If Birdo's there, a fairy will float above the stage dropping bombs. Watch out! If Wario comes, he'll drop enemies too, AND he'll ram into the screen to lower Thwomp to crush you. If you run out of space to move, it's Game Over! Different types of monsters in later levels will require different methods: some only die diagonally, others require bombing twice, others change color after the first assault and you have to finish them a second time according to what color they've changed to.
It's addicting. For serious. The SNES version has a lot more features and it has a cute competition mode where you battle various bosses such as a witch, a mermaid and Wario himself. Did I mention Wario's Woods for SNES is a lot harder than its counterpart on the NES? Never thought it'd be possible. Either way, I got around 125 levels (and more?) on both~ ♥♥♥
Isn't Wario's Woods the last game Nintendo released on the NES? That's how hardcore it is. Oh yeah. As the fanart suggests, I'd play a version starring Toadette and Waluigi in a heartbeat. ♥
