Listened to the Loveless vocal album and the second Ouran vocal album and soundtrack (former downloaded from
here) coming into work today. My impressions:
Track 1 is Soubi, and oh boy is it boring. Konishi isn't a bad singer, but the fact that he isn't a good singer does not help the song at all.
Track 2 is Ritsuka, and it lacks a bit of oomph. But I like Minagawa Junko's voice, and it's still far more interesting than Soubi's song so I'll probably listen to it more.
Track 3 is a duet with Saiga Mitsuki (Natsuo) and I forget who the other person was (probably Yoshino Hiroyuki who plays Youji, the other half of Zero?). A pretty good song, marred by the fact that Saiga Mitsuki is a much better singer than the other person. :P
Track 4 is by Fukuyama Jun (Yayoi) is also a pretty good song. He does a good job on it, though it's obvious he isn't a great singer.
Track 5 is a duet by Soubi and Ritsuka. Wow, this really didn't work for me. The song itself was just retarded. And I think it was probably very emo (I don't pay attention to lyrics when I first listen to a song so I'm not sure).
Tracks 6-10 were the instrumental tracks of the first five songs. What a way to fill the album. The rest were regular instrumentals. Not sure if they were BGM or image songs, but there was one track that sounded eerily like a very very very famous classical piece, and I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what it was. In any case, other than that none of the instrumentals grabbed me on first listen.
Track 1 is the TV edit of the ending. I had never paid much attention to the ending, partly because I had always skipped past it. But listening to it just by itself, I'm starting to like it. I should find the single version and see if I'll end up liking it a lot like how I did the opening.
Track 2 is probably Kyouya's song. It's a pretty song, I suppose. He does a pretty good job singing it. It just throws me off because it's so ballady and that doesn't seem quite right because it's, well, Kyouya.
Track 3 has to be the twins. I like this song. It's fun, it's bouncy, it has violently bad Engrish. XD
Track 4 is one of those happy songs in which everyone sings. This is my favorite song from this album. It's even more fun than track 3.
The rest is BGM, which I finally realized not only sounds like classical music in general, but music from the
Classical music era. Not exactly my favorite style for incidental music, Mozart and Beethoven notwithstanding. It has a lot of bright tones and very formal structure, which can get boring pretty fast when not handled well.
I'm disappointed that Haruhi doesn't have her own song on either albums, and kind of feel cheated. :P My favorite song of the individual vocals is by far Tamaki's. The song itself is insanely catchy (and funny) and the dude can sing. I like that voice actor so much in this role, even more now that I know he can sing.
