Um. LOL?
So, the Yami Marik event has started on Duel Links! I proceeded to beat him soundly until I took him on at Level 40 and he bowled me over. Well, there are still plenty of days left to try to beat him at that level. It was so satisfying beating him every other time, and he and Yami Bakura had a couple of interesting conversations on the first couple of occasions.
Oddly enough, when I got beat a few minutes ago, I unlocked Yami Marik as playable. I wasn't even trying to, didn't particularly want him as playable, and I didn't think this event even involved getting him as playable since it's being promoted as getting the Ra card. But ... LOL? I find it somehow amusing to unlock a character without even meaning to. And it seemed ... easier to unlock him than I figured it would be. I guess the one thing I like about that is that he won't go away after the event, then. That's kind of nice and satisfying. Although I won't be able to pit him against Yami Bakura afterwards unless I challenge Yami Bakura at the Gate while playing Yami Marik. And then I'd probably want Yami Bakura to win, LOL. I really don't want to beat all my favorite characters with Yami Marik. I felt a little guilty enough beating Yugi and Tea with Yami Bakura at first, but I'm okay with it now. I don't think I'd ever feel okay about it with Yami Marik.
... Huh, coming to think about it, I wonder if Yami Marik will be staying after the event. It said something about him now being in Duel World, etc., but I figured that was only for the event. Although that was also after I thought he had been appearing, so I wonder if he will stay on. I'd like that fine, so I can keep challenging him (and beating him).
Yugi looks like one of the hardest to unlock. His unlock missions are very complicated. I'm both surprised and irritated by that, since I do want him. Ah well, maybe I'll be able to get him eventually.
Pegasus and Bonz also have rather complicated unlock missions. I'm not trying to get them as playable, either, although maybe Bonz would have some useful cards to give to Yami Bakura. Not sure on that; I did get a Dragon Zombie and have been waffling on whether to give it to him since it seems more like Bonz's card and I'm not sure I can picture Yami Bakura using it.
LOL, I've been playing almost exclusively as Yami Bakura since unlocking him. No surprise there, since it was finding out he was available all the time now and not just during events that made me really push to get the game. I think I only paused once to get out Yami Yugi to beat Seto as one of Seto's unlock missions. I only have one unlock mission for Seto now, which is to play five spell cards in one duel. You wouldn't think that would be so complicated! But I guess I must play traps more than spells.
Also, it seems like I should have played close to 200 Light monsters by now! I wish I could have a counter for that. I can see how many traps I've played, but not Light monsters. I'm waiting for Ishizu and Rishid to show up.
In designing a deck for Yami Bakura that works well, as mentioned, I gave him a few cards he used on the show or that seemed similar, plus a few Fire monsters and a lizard. Then I was still having some problems and I fixed it up some more. I decided I want to give him a Supernatural deck, with both Light and Dark monsters in it. On the show, he will use Light monsters if he feels it suits his deck, so that's not going OOC. Plus, since I'm considering him as the Yami Bakura in my post-series verse, he is trying to be good. Of course, he would absolutely never use cutesy cards like Tea's Shining Friendship, LOL. I love that card, but the thought of him using it is just creepy. But I researched some good Light monsters and I gave him Hysteric Fairy/Angel. I felt it would amuse him, plus it's a good card. It's one of my favorites and one I personally own. I was psyched to actually get it in a card pack in Duel Links, as I haven't had a lot of luck getting cards I'm actually trying to get! I also gave him Ancient Elf, which seemed along the lines of Lady of Faith, and then a card in the Worm line, which oddly enough is Light attribute but looks grotesque. I figure he likes grotesque things, heh. And I gave him an ice-type card. I'd actually like to give him the card game version of the St. Joan card used on the show, as there is an equivalent, but it's super hard to get. I wish Duel Links had a marketplace like in Neopets, where users can buy or trade with each other. Of course, I doubt anyone would give up that card if they had it, but even just in general, a marketplace like that would be neat.
I feel a little sad that for pretty much everyone, I can't give them all the cards they use on the show. Some are just too weak to be practical in Duel Links, especially when you can only have a smaller deck. And some are too high level, heh. If there's too many that require tributes, it's really difficult to get anything on the field. My favorite things to play are Level 4 monsters with high attack points. I have some good Level 3, too. And of course, I do keep a few cards around that require tributes, just not many. For Yami Bakura, the cards I kept for him that he uses on the show are Dark Necrofear (couldn't not have that, even though it's been of no use to me so far due to how specific the summoning conditions are), The Earl of Demise, The Gross Ghost of Fled Dreams, Lady of Faith (Light monster, yay!), and Eletric Lizard (good effect). I'm getting Headless Knight when he hits Level 21, which I'm happy about. At least when it's a suit of armor, it's not quite so creepy. If it was a regular body, I'd probably be spinning in circles. Still hate that trope. Oh, I also gave Yami Bakura Shadow Ghoul. He doesn't use it in the majority of the show, but in season 5 he gains its power for Diabound, and it seems like a card he'd use in general.
I really wish they would make Marik, Bakura, and Duke available in the game. With Marik especially it's curious, as people have apparently dug into the game files and found some pictures of him and such. So where is he? I was admittedly hoping maybe he would be part of this Yami Marik event. I wonder if there's any chance he could be, since they didn't promote unlocking Yami Marik as part of it. Maybe they'd keep Marik as a surprise too. I've gotta say, it's awfully strange that you can get Bonz, Weevil, and ARKANA as playable characters before Marik's even out. Marik is one of the most popular characters. So is Bakura, for that matter.
