All I can think about this morning how if things were different I could be seriously messed up right now.
I was driving down 295 south in the rain and wind in my Grandpa's minivan at about 60 mph and all the sudden I saw a car a bit of a ways ahead of me spin in the middle of the highway the go literally straight into the ditch at at least 50 mph. I was like... WTF? Then it noticed the lake in front of me that was under a bridge. I realized if I slammed brakes I'd probably go spinning to so I just held the wheel as tight as I could and went straight through it. I came out fine and 2 other people stopped to help the car. I feel like maybe I should have stopped too but 2 people already had and I'm no medical specialist so I don't think there's anything I could have contributed.
But what hit me was, if my subie hadn't died, I would have been driving her. And I would have been going around 75mph instead of 60. Plus my car is way lighter, I'm pretty sure I would have gone into the ditch worse than the car in front of me. My car had better tires than the van, but with that much water at that speed I don't think it would have mattered.
So I think having the van saved me from some serious hurt. I was driving slower and more alert because I had the van. So, whatevers whatching out for me, thanks. Even though saving me from hurt meant my ride had to die.
