So last night Joe and I did our taxes. I was surprised, because I did some freelance work last year, and I had some money saved up to pay taxes, however I didn't owe money because of my freelance work, but because of my secretarial jobs. They didn't take out enough taxes. Stupid taxes. It isn't too bad, but still I wasn't expecting it. I hate the government.
However we are getting money back from both NJ and NC, which doesn't really off set the $1000, we owe federal, but oh well.
This year will be a new start for my freelance interpreting. I'm filing quarterly now, I'm keeping track of every stupid piece of paper. I think next year when we file taxes it won't be as demoralizing. Hopefully instead if seeing a big red number saying how much we owe the federal government, the screen will display a happy green number saying how much money we will be getting back.
I got my first pay check from my interpreting work. I'm very happy with it. I'm earning almost twice as much as I was in my office job. I love my job. I love having a different schedule everyday. I love not knowing what my schedule will be next week. Working with different people everyday in a different environment is so refreshing.
