This year I had very little money and ended up DRIVING up! I parked at a MARTA station near our motel, and took the train in. I arrived before 11 PM but was told I was too late for pre-reg.
I took about 50 pictures and then headed back to my car. Some drunk people decided to pick a fight with me by saying that my lens sucks and that I'm a loser. I laughed at them and told them that I don't need alcohol to have a good time.
I found the motel without too much trouble. I parked and called David from a filling station next to the motel. "What room are we in...hey! There's a guy getting arrested at the filling station across the street." The police had drawn guns on him and he layed down. He was handcuffed and taken away. One of the policemen looked over at me when I reported to David on the happenings across the street.
After about 10 minutes I found the room. David said there were blood stains in the bathroom. He told me they were gonna get up at 6 am. I said that sounded good and went to bed.
I woke up before 6 and started charging batteries. I should have started before going to bed. I took a shower and got ready.
I'm carrying a photo album in my bag. It makes the bag pretty heavy and the strap presses on my trapezius. My goal is 1000 photos a day, for a total of 4000 photos by con's end.
After getting my badge (I get to skip some of the line since my last name starts with an I) I headed over to the main hotels.
On the main floor of the Hyatt, I start talking with TurboMC. While we talk, Doug Mooney comes over. He says I took his picture last night with a friend, and wants to know if he could get a copy. I say, "sure" and he writes down his e-mail in my master book.
I go into full photo mode and after 30 minutes I spot a girl I photographed a lot last year. She never wrote for photos, but I made a print for her. She is seriously pregnant and her boyfriend is with her. I take some photos and then give her the print. She looked kind of uncomfortable when I was taking photos. I got both their e-mails.
I ran into Sith Lord Maliss. EEP! I was supposed to send him photos! I had his address and misplaced it. I DID make a print for him. I gave him the print and apologized. He was nice about it and posed for some more photos.
Troy has a Cosplay Deviants table on one of the lower levels of the Hyatt. I take some pictures of Spider Woman. She's got very good skin.
I do a lot of natural light photography. It amuses me when other photographers step up and start using a flash. One photographer seems to be following me. He starts getting in my way and I ask him not to get in the way of the shots I set up. He quits following me.
That lady at the table, at the snack store, in the Hyatt, looks familiar. I ask her about last year. Yup! It's her! Her name is Wantay and she loves the print. She poses some more for me and is more beautiful than I remember.
I take a picture of three people. Among them is a girl dressed as a bellydancer, with a striking appearance. Her face shows beauty and intelligence. I ask her to pose in another location and she loves the photos. It turns out she really IS a bellydancer. I tell her about Raqs Attaq and Rose. Her name is Madeline.
I run into Belle Chere in the lobby of the Hyatt. She is there with her...husband? I'm assuming so. Anyhow, I give them TWO prints from last year. They really like the prints and pose for me a lot. I take quite a few photos. They are both very nice.
I talk with the MTAC/GMX people and photograph the 3 girls promoting the con. They all seem pretty nice.
I run into "Less Than Human" author Gary Raisor in the lobby of the Hyatt. I'm not familiar with his work, so my end of the conversation was pretty lame. He did a good job on his end. Now that I've looked up his book, it definitely seems like a good read.
I notice a good Vampirella being interviewed in the lobby of the Hyatt. After they are down, I ask her if she would pose. We took a lot of shots outside. She liked the photos. :-)
To be continued....
