Thats right boys and girls, I'm a movin on up to... Albany. Sunday is fast approaching and with it my exit from Orange county and my entrance into Albany. Its always nice to stay with the folks, and my kid sister is becoming quite the interesting person, but I'm more than happy to move on with my life and get back to writing. So yeah, I move sunday, I'm going to be living 6 minutes by car from my internship near the capital building. I'm also going to be living with two of the other interns, they seem easy going enough, hell they trusted me to find the apartment. Trust my judgement? Oh they don't know me yet, its an honest mistake to make. The apartment is the top floor of a house, not the best but not the worst place to live in the world. Essentialy you just have to adjust to the fact that Albany sucks to live in, its dirty and people will rob/kill you if they please. I don't live in the straight ghetto, but still if I don't want something all I have to do is put it outside and some one will take it.
So i had to buy all new clothes for the internship. I anow super swanky Charlie, instead of drunkard-bearded Charlie. Seriously I've cut my hair, I shave regularly. Hell I even had to learn how to tie a tie for this shit. I may just be in over my head. I found out from buying all this stuff, I have no idea what is fashionable or good when it comes to nice clothes. I mean fashion still doesn't matter to me, but I'd at least like to make decent impression on people before they realizeI'm a maniac in disguise.
Oh yeah, when the hell did I start careing about making a good impression? I look back five years ago and I was amused when cops mistook me for being homeless. Now I'm worried that I won't look good for the people at the news paper. Am I becoming a responsible adult? do responsible adults drink at least five nights out of the week? I dunno.
Oh, Summer movie run down!
5. Star Trek- Awsome re-take on the original. The acting was, eh not the most amazing but it made up for it in good laughs and some of the smaller performances. Furthermore it started off my summer with exactly what I wanted, a fun action movie that I actually hope they make sequals to.
4. Whatever works- This is the first Woody Allen movie I've seen in theaters. The plot was pretty damn stock, but thats kind of Woody Allen. What comes through in this movie is the interaction between characters. though they're a little 2D some of the lines delivered in that moive had me laughing out loud.. Also it was a great introdution to the local art house theatre.
3. Moon- I love good Sci-Fi. I also love when its done without haveing to spend a massive budget on CGI that makes things look real, but still doesn't do it right. Moon took a differnt route by useing modles and very little CGI. All teh exterior setting is done with hand built modles. I love it!. furthermore Sam Rockwell was amazing in this as basicly the only character, save for Kevin spacey as the computer's voice. Definately worth looking for.
2. District 9: HOLY CRAP! remember what I just said about not having a massive budget yet making good Sci-Fi, move that down here. Actualy maybe I should have just copy and pasted it instead of just writing that, ah fuck it. D9 tells a story that is actually compelling to the point that it might not have needed the amazing action sequences. That said, i'm so fucking glad they had those sequences because hot damn they were awsome! Also they actualy manged to capture emotions from the aliens, which I don't think anyone ever tries for, or succeeds with anyway. See this movie.
1. The Hurt Locker: Far and away the best movie I've seen all summer. I almost wish I hadn't because District 9 would have been #1, but goddamn does this movie take the cake. A story of three complex people who happen to be soldiers in Iraq, it looks into what prolonged war does to human without slapping you in the face witha placard that reads "NOW DO YOU SEE THAT WAR IS BAD!!!ZOMG!!!". Honestly I think this could win some Oscars if nothing better comes out and holleywood politics don't interfere. I bet that if you see this movie you won't even notice the big names that have bit parts, i missed'em until I saw the credits. The atmospere created for this moive through its sound and camera work is simply perfect. Once again, go see this movie.
I guess thats all for now, so yeah moving, seen a lot of movies, life's changing yet again. Yeah everyhtings normal. Peace.
